Badass as Venom may look, it's become apparent to all that Sony is just throwing whatever they can at the wall and seeing what'll stick. I mean, do we really need solo movies for the likes of Morbius and Kraven the Hunter before they've been established in prior flicks? Yes, comic book readers may know who they are, but the the average moviegoer probably doesn't - nor do they have any reason to pay for a ticket.
Well, it's really starting to look like the summer of 2018 is the time for Marvel to make controversial changes to its characters' origins. Having already tweaked Venom's beginnings last month, the House of Ideas are back at it with another surprising twist that could prove divisive.
Despite what some naysayers may have to offer, Venom has remained among my most anticipated comic book movies to drop in 2018. Sure, the studio may be foregoing any connection to Spider-Man, but that doesn't detract from how the film looks positively badass in the slightest.
When news broke last month revealing the lineup for the Birds of Prey movie, many a fan breathed a sigh of relief upon learning that Huntress, Black Canary and Rene Montoya will be featured alongside Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn. But what baffled the same folks was the realization that Barbara Gordon will sit this one out, so don't count on seeing her as either Batgirl or Oracle.
In 1975, Jaws made moviegoers afraid to go in the water. Then, in 2013, Sharknado came along and probably forced a small percentage of people to fear the outdoors as a whole, lest a rogue shark actually slaughter them on their front lawn.
Though all eyes will most certainly be affixed to the next major Arrowverse crossover that's set to introduce the freshly cast Ruby Rose as Batwoman, there remains a very strong chance that we'll see much overlap on a smaller scale sometime in the coming year. After all, the heroes occupying both Star City and Central City have been known to visit the other for various reasons, so there's no logical explanation for that tradition not continuing.
Though they should probably wait to see how the Venom movie performs at the box office before proceeding with any other spinoffs spotlighting Spider-Man villains, Sony seems to have no qualms when it comes to going whole hog in this regard. Normally, I file this stuff under "I'll believe it when I see it" (remember when we were supposed to get a Sinister Six flick and possibly one about a young Aunt May?), but the Morbius film really appears to be taking shape in short order, thus I feel it stands a very good chance of seeing the light of day.
Though they technically never got to crossover, Deadpool has thus far done his best to feature Logan in his movies in some capacity. Whether it be a magazine cover or a hilarious mid-credits scene righting the wrongs of X-Men Origins: Wolverine, it's become well apparent that the Merc with a Mouth has some sort of fixation on one of Charles Xavier's most popular pupils.
If you've been keeping up with news pertaining to The Flash over the summer, then you've probably read about how the Scarlet Speedster may very well don yet another costume at some point during season 5. Actually, word had also gotten out regarding how he'll again rock the O.G. suit near the start, but we expect for an upgrade to follow shortly thereafter.
As the West-Allen family continues growing in the strangest of ways, it shouldn’t have come as a shock to any when hearing that Jessica Parker Kennedy was one of the latest to sign on as a series regular, thus assuring that we’ll be seeing much, much more of Nora, Barry and Iris’ daughter from the future in The Flash's fifth season.
