With the latest full trailer for Avengers: Infinity War having arrived a few weeks back, it’s only understandable that devout True Believers and casual moviegoers alike begin frothing at the mouth. After all, it felt like an eternity had passed since the previous one dropped and the film’s release date is coming up fast.
Awesome as 2017's IT was, I must confess that I'm still trying to wrap my head around all the cash the major motion picture raked in. Really, the impressive numbers that it posted were pretty much unheard of for a horror flick, and are normally reserved for summer blockbusters, superhero movies and family favorites featuring CGI cartoon characters.
There are probably a multitude of reasons why I feel the films directed by Joe and Anthony Russo - Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War - are among the best Marvel Studios have thus far released, but I'll simplify matters by saying that I really appreciate the emotional weight, authenticity and consequences they lend to the material. That said, you can imagine why I have the utmost confidence that Avengers: Infinity War will be a well-rounded moviegoing experience.
Though Legends of Tomorrow boasts having mainstays such as White Canary, the Atom and Heatwave, the revolving door on the Waverider can't be ignored. In fact, the coming and going of various DC heroes has been a double-edged sword of sorts, because while viewers have gotten attached to certain characters they've eventually had to say goodbye to, it's undeniable that new blood keeps the show fresh and exciting.
At this point, it’s very hard to imagine the Arrow landscape without John Diggle. Really, David Ramsey’s character has been there since the very beginning and has evolved from being Oliver Queen’s bodyguard to Spartan, a superhero in his own right who has been key in the crusade to save Star City for the past several years. Granted, Ollie and Dig had quite the spat near the end of season 3, but they’d since patched things up.
On the one hand, word on the street saying that roughly a billion different DC films are in development is enough to make any geek giddy pondering the possibilities, but on the other, Warner Bros. are doing a disservice to this fanbase because the cold reality is that only a small fraction will ever see their way to the silver screen.
Being someone who was highly critical of Legends of Tomorrow's first two seasons, I'm never shy to admit how greatly I've taken to its third. Hey, sometimes it takes certain TV series a bit of time to truly hit their stride, and I believe that's something this particular show has done since last fall.
Sure, Captain Cold may be a standard villain when it comes to any tale concerning the Flash, but you have to admit that casting someone like Wentworth Miller all but assures whatever character he may be playing will catch on. As such, his take on Leonard Snart eventually made its way over to Legends of Tomorrow, where he made the ultimate heroic sacrifice.
In the past, I've likened the current season of Arrow to pro wrestling, due to its emphasis on factions and their splitting. Already, we've seen the team fracture down the center, with the newbies and old guard going about their separate ways. Of course, Diggle going off and doing his own thing doesn't help matters, as Oliver Queen seems alone now more than ever.
