If anything, the fifth season of Arrow was proof positive that a series can bounce back after experiencing a season that was deemed to be lackluster by many. Sure, saying such a thing may sound a bit brutal, but many fans expressed displeasure with too much focus being placed on the "Olicity" romance, in addition to bizarre narrative choices and a shift toward the supernatural in a show that had previously been more grounded than others occupying the Arrowverse.
Even though there may have been some subtle differences in the earlier seasons, the fact of the matter is that Stephen Amell has actually donned a new costume with each passing year of Arrow. Still, it wasn't until season 4 that Oliver Queen received a massive upgrade, with longer sleeves applied in the next. Obviously, one would expect that trend to continue, but any footage we've thus far seen from the upcoming batch of episodes shows him wearing familiar threads.
Admittedly, I and probably the majority of comic book readers today have a bit of a superhero lean when it comes to which titles we enjoy on a regular basis, but it's important to note that there's so much more out there - just as there is with any other medium. Having said that, Rothic Comics' recently introduced DiVinica series comes as a breath of fresh air.
Despite all the back and forth that's occurred lately when it comes to The Batman, the fact of the matter is that we all want to see the movie come to fruition and tell the best story possible. Really, I hope to see as many films featuring the character as I can during my lifetime because there's just so much source material for to cull from (the Caped Crusader celebrates his 80th anniversary in 2019, mind you).
Although Secret Empire technically concluded last month with its tenth issue, a few threads were left dangling. Luckily for us though, an epilogue of sorts has arrived in the form of Secret Empire: Omega #1. In addition to hinting that Black Widow may very well be still alive, writer Nick Spencer continued laying the groundwork for the next year or so of Marvel storytelling by teasing what lies ahead for the Punisher.
Now that the DC Extended Universe is in full swing, all we can do is sit back and wait to see which of our favorite superheroes Warner Bros. will bring to the big screen next. Obviously, they're pretty keen on Batman, preparing a new film for the Dark Knight himself, while also mulling over their options when it comes to the likes of Nightwing and the Joker. But what of their other big gun, Superman?
When I say that we've come a long way when it comes to superhero costuming in live action, you'll probably agree with me. Years ago, it seemed like nobody was able to think outside of the spandex box, but today, we're treated to one sweet looking suit after another. Often given the impression that each costume is both utilitarian and stylish, we now wholeheartedly believe why these characters look the way they do.
Think back to when you were in high school. Do you remember that whenever you would return from spring break or summer vacation there were always a fair amount of people rocking new hairstyles and whatnot? Or, if you're a pro wrestler who wants their comeback to be more impactful after sitting on the sidelines for six months or more, you might upgrade your threads. Likewise, The Flash will seemingly employ that very same logic upon his liberation from the Speed Force.
I think it’s safe to say that I wasn’t the only fan of Arrow who was extremely happy to see Manu Bennett return as Slade Wilson in season 5’s finale. Having capably played the mercenary as both ally and nemesis to Oliver Queen throughout the show’s first two seasons, he’s undoubtedly been one of the more memorable actors to have come through the door.
When the first footage from Riverdale found its way online many moons ago, staunch Archie Comics purists scoffed at its darker, more subversive take on their beloved characters that have endured for three quarters of a century. But once the show actually premiered, some changed their tune, finding themselves hooked in by a compelling murder mystery that also introduced a new generation of fans to the town with pep.
