Among the many positive things Arrow has had going for it since the very beginning has been that of well-designed costumes. Seeing Oliver Queen donning an outfit heavily influenced by Mike Grell's The Longbow Hunters definitely set the precedent, but when Arsenal debuted his badass suit in season 3, it became obvious that his mentor had to up his game. Thus, the Green Arrow himself got some serious upgrades in seasons 4 and 5, the latter costume being so impressive that this writer now wears it regularly to conventions and other events.
For many, Wonder Woman represented a turning point in the DC Extended Universe. With several divisive films preceding it, director Patty Jenkins, lead actress Gal Gadot and the rest of the talented people on either side of the camera put forth their best effort, effectively crafting a superhero experience for the ages that we hope subsequent entries in the line will equal - or even surpass. That said, it's certainly not hard to see why it recently passed the $400 million mark at the American box office.
Just when I thought The CW's prime time lineup couldn't sustain yet another DC TV show, the first trailer for Black Lightning premiered a few months ago and I thought to myself, "yeah, there's room for one more." Combining striking visuals that Greg Berlanti's superhero series have become known for with real world sensibilities, it should definitely make for some compelling television.
Last year, Warner Bros. treated us with the awesome Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders, which saw the likes of Adam West, Burt Ward and Julie Newmar reprise their roles of Batman, Robin and Catwoman, respectively. Being essentially the beginning to a fourth season we never received, it surpassed expectations by retaining the feel of the classic 1960's television series, while also featuring grandiose action scenes that could've never been accomplished on the budget of the show.
I think it's safe to say that I wasn't the only fan of Arrow who was extremely happy to see Manu Bennett return as Slade Wilson in season 5's finale. Having capably played the mercenary as both ally and nemesis to Oliver Queen throughout the show's first two seasons, he's undoubtedly been one of the more memorable actors to have come through the door.
To date, The Flash has utilized no shortage of villains culled from the comic books, which is quite understandable when you take the Scarlet Speedster's impressive rogues gallery into account. While we've seen more well known knaves such as Captain Cold, Mirror Master and the Reverse-Flash give the S.T.A.R. Labs crew headaches, there have also been more obscure baddies featured like Girder and Magenta. And, as you could probably gather from the headline, the latest addition to the enduring television saga falls in with the latter.
So far, DC's Young Animal imprint has impressed critics and consumers alike with its outlandish takes on cult favorite characters, while adding some new ones to the publisher's expansive pantheon as well. If I could succinctly sum up what I've seen from this line to date, I'd say it's like a marriage between Vertigo and DC proper. Basically, it's the best of both worlds.
Now that we're within reaching distance of Batman and Harley Quinn's home video release, some may argue that this may very well be the most difficult time of the waiting period. That being said, the folks at Warner Bros. have decided to kindly tide us over with yet another clip from the highly anticipated animated film.
Although most of the specifics regarding the upcoming season of Supernatural remain shrouded in mystery, one thing is for certain: Lucifer's son, Jack, is someone we're going to be seeing a whole lot of. In fact, Entertainment Weekly was able to confirm just as much by reporting that Alexander Calvert (Arrow's Anarky) will be a series regular.
Being the massive fan of Arrow that I am, even I'm willing to admit that the show hit a speed bump of sorts in its fourth season. Having said that, it was thrilling to see the cast and crew turn things around for the fifth year, serving up what had been one of their strongest offerings to date.
