Aside from a Dolph Lundgren return looming, Arrow fans have much to look forward to with the midseason premiere, "Who Are You?," being just seven days away. It goes without saying that the anticipation level for this returning episode has been unbelievably high, but the intensity displayed in the freshly released extended trailer certainly kicks it up a notch.
Seeing as how DC unveiled their Free Comic Book Day offerings earlier today, we were anxiously waiting for Marvel to lay their cards on the table and, needless to say, they did not disappoint. In one fell swoop, readers will be introduced to the new status quo for both the Guardians of the Galaxy and The Defenders when they open a copy of All-New Guardians of the Galaxy FCBD #1.
Not to be outdone by Marvel’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story Adaptation, IDW is getting back into the tie-in game when 24: Legacy makes the jump to the comic book medium with Rules of Engagement.
Dream crossovers are certainly becoming all the rage these days in comic books. Just yesterday, we spoke of Batman ’66 Meets Wonder Woman ’77, with today bringing news of yet another exciting team-up featuring the Dark Knight. This time, DC will collaborate with Dynamite Entertainment in order to bring Batman/Shadow to life.
Each year, comic book retailers celebrate their equivalent of Black Friday on the first Saturday in May. Dubbed “Free Comic Book Day,” it delivers on its namesake as every top publisher puts out a free floppyback or two with the intention of hooking new readers. Plus, the stores themselves often have some wicked deals for those who stick around to actually purchase something.
Seeing as how Harley Quinn Vol. 6: Black, White and Red All Over is the final volume to collect the New 52 run in hardcover, I would like to give a little bit of background and say what it has meant to me personally. Before Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti took the reins, I honestly wasn’t a fan of Harley Quinn. I mean, I understood her place in the Batman mythos, but felt her to be somewhat one-dimensional when she was Joker’s henchgirl.
While I impatiently await Batman and Joker’s first collision of the Rebirth era and for the Dark Knight to get to the bottom of this “three Jokers” business, the current arc playing out in the pages of Harley Quinn will do nicely. Yes, I was a bit critical of the last issue – and I stand by my statements – but this installment delivers more of what I was expecting when this was first announced several months back.
It's already been established that spinoffs are a very real possibility when it comes to Riverdale, but crossovers? Normally such red tape can be averted only in the comic book medium, which Archie Comics are certainly no stranger to having published unexpected, yet critically acclaimed, mashups such as Archie vs. Sharknado and Archie vs. Predator. Before you do some fact checking of your own, we assure you that, yes, they most certainly do exist.
Aside from having the opportunity to join Batman in a sure to be epic comic book team-up this spring, the immediate future for The Flash looks to be every bit as intense as it is exciting. Thanks to this newly released extended promo, counting down the seven remaining days until the midseason premiere, "Borrowing Problems from the Future," just got even harder.
It's undeniable that Harley Quinn is currently one of the hottest commodities in all of comics. Thanks to the success of 2016's feature film Suicide Squad, it's probably safe to say she was the most cosplayed character for that calendar year and we can only hope that translates into more comic books sales for the wonderful series written by Jimmy Palmiotti and Amanda Conner.
