As we look forward to the fall television season, the question on many a fan's mind is how exactly will Supergirl be integrated into the already established DC Universe on The CW. In order for the Girl of Steel to regularly interact with characters from other shows, the producers will have to solve the problem of her existing in an alternate universe. Some fans have theorized this dilemma will be worked out via the "Flashpoint" event over on The Flash, but that really only affects a singular universe, not the multiverse. It's probably safe to say that the unprecedented four-show crossover that includes the two aforementioned shows, along with Arrow and DC's Legends of Tomorrow, will be where things are streamlined in an organic sense.
We have known for about a year now that Ben Affleck's Batman will play a small role in Suicide Squad, but ever since the latest trailer (seen above) dropped this past weekend at San Diego Comic-Con, analytical fans and journalists have theorized that he won't be the only member of the Justice League to make an appearance.
Ever since the release of Tim Burton's Batman Returns in 1992, we as a movie-going audience have grown accustomed to seeing superheroes undergo costume changes from movie to movie, be they minor alterations or radical overhauls. While Peter Parker's onscreen costumes have had a connective thread in regard to visual similarities over the past fourteen years, we may see a few surprises in what has to be my most anticipated film from Marvel Studios in 2017, Spider-Man: Homecoming.
When Arrow began its run four years ago, it was set in a world inspired by The Dark Knight Trilogy in the sense that superpowers didn't exist. By Season 2, that notion was completely thrown out the window when we met Barry Allen, who would soon become The Flash and get his own spin-off. Since then, we have seen mysticism introduced via villains such as Damien Darhk and Ra's al Ghul.
Something that we have all learned to expect from Gotham is that the show's producers aren't afraid to shake up the mythology. Sure, major changes may grind the gears of purists from time to time, but you must admit that a measure of originality needs to be kept when trying to surprise a prime time audience for a show that will air for an indefinite period.
Although The CW has given birth to its own veritable superhero universe, we must not forget that at the center are The Flash and Arrow. Trailers for both shows' upcoming seasons premiered today at San Diego Comic-Con and featured a surprising amount of new footage, as opposed to being mere sizzle reels.
Saturday tends to be the day San Diego Comic-Con seems to bear the most fruit when it comes to news and several tidbits that will excite comic book fans happen to pertain to DC's Legends of Tomorrow. It's not a major leap of the imagination that a show focusing on a superhero team would see the arrival of not only another superhero team, but a club comprised of villains.
Without a doubt, one of the things that excites me most when it comes to news trickling out of San Diego Comic-Con happens to be when Warner Bros. Animation announces the following year's slate of DC animated movies. Thankfully, 2017 looks to be a good year on that front, as it will see the release of Batman and Harley Quinn, among two other unexpected entries.
San Diego Comic-Con is well underway and the first trailer to come out of the event based on a DC Comics property pertains to that of the much anticipated animated series Justice League Action. One viewing of the footage provided certainly gives the impression that the show's producers certainly aren't skimping on the "action" aspect.
Although San Diego Comic-Con won't officially be in full swing until tomorrow, preview night festivities kick off in a matter of hours. Those lucky enough to be in attendance will be the first to see a screening of the Riverdale pilot, which stars KJ Apa as the iconic Archie Andrews.
