Though we've yet to even witness the events set to unfold during episode 5x03 of Gotham, we're already being granted an advance look at 5x04. That's right, the network has generously allowed for preview images taken from "Ruin" to begin circulating, and we're going to discuss them today.
Now that The Flash has returned from winter hiatus, the rest of our DC TV favorites calling The CW home are slowly but surely following suit. In fact, Arrow will resume its own ongoing saga just five days from the time of this writing. And, believe me, it looks like we're in for a real barn-burner.
Riveting as Gotham's season premiere proved to be, it's quite possible that I'm even more excited for this week's episode. The reason I say that is because it's set to feature the return of Jeremiah Valeska, the man who could very well wind up becoming this universe's version of the Joker.
When I tuned in for The Flash's midseason premiere last night, the last thing I was expecting was a reference to Batman. But lo and behold, we actually received one. I guess with the "Elseworlds" crossover now behind us, it's very possible we'll get more subtle hints to the legacy left behind by the Arrowverse's absentee Dark Knight.
With Arrow's midseason premiere set to debut one week from tonight, it's probably safe to say that most of us are looking forward to learning more about Oliver Queen's estranged sister. After all, it wasn't revealed until the appropriately titled "Unmasked" that she's been the new Emerald Archer prowling Star City for the past few months. In fact, recent promo materials have promised we'll be seeing much more of her in the very near future.
One element in particular that's made the Young Justice animated series intriguing is the time jumps between seasons. To cite a relevant example, season 2 saw Dick Grayson graduate to Nightwing, with Tim Drake taking up the mantle of Robin. Similarly, Kaldur'ahm has upgraded from being Aqualad to Aquaman in season 3.
To lovers of the extended Bat-Family, the upcoming Birds of Prey movie could be described as a dream come true. I don't know about you, but I'm super excited to see the likes of Black Canary and Huntress on the silver screen - not to mention the cinematic debut of the villainous Black Mask.
For those anxiously awaiting Darkseid's debut on the silver screen, the reality of a Justice League sequel not seeing the light of day must be heartbreaking. Truth be told, he's one of my favorite villains in all of fiction, and I'm still baffled as to why the studio backed his lackey, Steppenwolf. To me, it'd be like making Ubu the chief antagonist in a Batman flick.
To the Average Joe, The New Gods isn't a comic book property that'd resonate as much as something like, say, Batman, Superman or Spider-Man. But the cool thing about the superhero genre's surge in Hollywood is that guys such as Black Panther and Doctor Strange are now household names. Heck, Aquaman just made a billion dollars at the box office, and most people had previously considered him to be a joke of a character before Jason Momoa inhabited the role (I'm aware he's very much a badass on the printed page).
If I had to single out one favorite character to have appeared on Gotham during its memorable run, I'm not sure that I technically could. One year ago at this time, I would've answered with "Jerome Valeska," but he's since been killed off. In his place is now twin brother Jeremiah, also played by the incomparable Cameron Monaghan. Amazingly, the guy's been able to serve up two distinctly different takes on the Joker.
