The public found out earlier this week that Equinox owner Stephen Ross was planning to host a fundraiser for President Donald Trump and obviously, this news didn't sit well with most of Hollywood, who's been very vocal about their displeasure with the controversial commander-in-chief.
Anthony Hopkins might've made Hannibal Lecter into the iconic character he is today, but not many people know that he's not the original actor to portray the cannibalistic serial killer. That distinction belongs to Brian Cox. The 73-year-old performer was the first to bring the demented doctor to the big screen back in 1986. Manhunter, based on the novel Red Dragon by Thomas Harris, fared poorly at the box office, but has since become more appreciated by critics and fans alike.
Even though the fourth phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe hasn't kicked off yet, fans are already looking ahead to the chapter that will come after. The highly-anticipated fifth phase is expected to be chock full of great movies. Among these are Guardians of the Galaxy 3, Captain Marvel 2, Blade, another Avengers film and more. Perhaps most exciting out of all of these potential flicks though is the expected release of Black Panther 2. And though nothing has been confirmed as of yet, it looks like the sequel could be headed for a February 18th, 2022 premiere date.
Batgirl is currently one of DC's most-anticipated upcoming films, but little is known about who's involved with the movie. Following Joss Whedon's unexpected exit from the flick last year though, Heroic Hollywood reports that Warner Bros. has been searching hard for a new director to helm the project as it's a big priority for them. Though no names are being tossed out as of yet, plenty of fans are excited to see who the studio will select to the lead the feature.
The Star Wars franchise changed the world forever when it first premiered back in 1977. The iconic movie series seemed to take over the public stratosphere for decades by constantly drawing in new fans from every corner of the globe. Nowadays, however, the property may be in some trouble. According to recent data, it seems like Star Wars is struggling to win over the younger generations.
While plenty of people are sick of all these reboots happening lately, it's hard to argue that some classic films should definitely be brought back for a new generation. One of those movies that falls under this category is Home Alone. Disney apparently feels the exact same way, too, as CEO Bob Iger has just announced that the multimedia conglomerate will reimagine several beloved flicks in the near future on their upcoming streaming service. These include Night at the Museum, Diary of a Wimpy Kid and the aforementioned Christmas comedy.
The influence that The Goonies has had on entertainment cannot be understated. It helped cement the legacies of Richard Donner, Steven Spielberg and Chris Columbus, and the creative storytelling and quirky cast inspired countless future projects, such as Stranger Things. The main characters even appeared as a LEGO set, as well as getting a shoutout from Deadpool decades later. Given the widespread impact that this movie has had since its release, it's somewhat shocking that fans have never been gifted with The Goonies 2.
Now that Josh Gad is officially out of the running, fans are wondering who will play Penguin in The Batman. Rumors continue to swirl about potential castings, but one particular story makes too much sense to ignore. Reports of Paul Walter Hauser potentially portraying the iconic villain have been gaining steam lately. Now they've reached an all-time high, as the 32-year-old actor is one of the contenders that director Matt Reeves and Warner Bros. are currently considering to take on the role.
Disney is clearly very serious about their commitment to diversity onscreen. Recently, their own ABC channel was the only one of the four major networks to reject the opportunity to hear a pitch about an upcoming action drama series from Dolph Lundgren and Sylvester Stallone. Executives reportedly passed on the show because it's not "female-focused."
As long as all of these live-action reboots continue to haul in absurd amounts of money, Disney will keep making them forever. The next classic film in line to be remade is reportedly Peter Pan. According to our sources - the same ones who told us that the Ghostbusters 3 leads would be young teens, which was later confirmed - the studio is planning to bring the boy who never grows up back to the big screen. Casting has yet to begin, but apparently, those at the top aren't against the idea of selecting a previously unknown actor for the lead role.
