Daniel Radcliffe has worked with a slew of critically-heralded directors. Both during his stint as the bespectacled boy wizard, Harry Potter, and following it he's been at the beck and call of many skilled filmmakers. The next time we see him on the big screen, he might not be the angel-faced lad we know and love. For Alexandre Aja, Radcliffe has absolutely decimated the remains of his Potter persona, transforming into a beastly man in Horns.
AMC are amping up their return to the Breaking Bad Universe. This weekend's marathon of Walter White's exploits came to a head last night, with the inclusion of a new music video trailer for Better Call Saul.
It IS happening again! What better way to start your autumnal Monday morning than with news of David Lynch and Mark Frost's seminal whodunnit mystery, Twin Peaks. Like many predicted, the show is slated to return to the small screen in 2016, as Showtime have ordered a limited nine-episode series that's set to revive the cult classic.
The most recent export from the Marvel rumour mill landed last week, when news circulated concerning the format of The Avengers 3. Allegedly, the last part of the trilogy is to be split into two films. It's not a huge shocker, as a lot of established blockbuster franchises have enacted the same idea as it brings in twice as much revenue for essentially one movie. However, the evidence against that scenario quickly piled up. With Downey Jr., Evans and Hemsworth clutching expiring contracts it seems highly improbable that it'd be split.
The entire internet went ballistic last month when 20th Century Fox dropped their biggest news of the year: Deadpool is finally getting a spinoff movie. As a character with strong ties to the X-Men throughout the comics - and X-Men Origins: Wolverine - there have been rumblings about whether this new movie would be a part of that same world. A confirmation that the film had a release date for Winter 2016 sparked further curiosity about how exactly the badass Mercenary would fit into the X-Men cinematic canon.
One glance at Kristen Stewart's recent resume and it's clear the actress is eager to shrug off the shackles of Twilight. A review of her upcoming film slate indicates that sullen-faced teen Bella Swan will soon be nothing but a hazy memory. There's no better proof of her shift into weightier fare than the latest trailer for Camp X-Ray. Directed by Peter Sattler, Stewart falls in line as Private Amy Cole, a Guantanamo Bay soldier-turned-guard who strikes up an unlikely alliance with detainee, Ali (Peyman Moaadi.)
The end is in sight for HBO's The Newsroom. The show's third and final season is nearly upon us, after which we'll bid goodbye to Atlantic Cable News crew.
It's a firmly held belief amongst fans that if Bryan Singer had remained attached to X-Men: The Last Stand, the finished film would've remained inline with the first two instalments (i.e. not derivative nonsense.) However, Singer chose to bow out of the third part in favour of Superman Returns, and handed over the reins to Brett Ratner. If you're not a fan of Brett Ratner's attempt, Singer still waged some influence over the events of the flick. He did rewrite the franchise's entire history in Days Of Future Past. But, would he have still done that if his original vision for The Last Stand had remained intact?
The latest Stephen King adaptation that has the potential to truly do the author's work justice, is Josh Boone's version of The Stand. Why has it got what it takes? Well for one, Boone is a huge fan of King and his gushing over the prolific writer extends farther than the usual. He worked in a ton of nods to the man in his first feature, Stuck In Love, and even managed to nab a voice cameo from King for the pic.
HBO continues to challenge theatrically-released cinema with its roster of compelling small screen serials. One of its upcoming "special two-part miniseries", Olive Kitteridge, aims to maintain their winning streak. In fact, their faith in the success of the show is such that it was granted a screening in its entirety at the Venice Film Festival.
