Starring Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart, Central Intelligence has finally secured a release date, as Variety reports it will open on June 17, 2016 alongside Disney's animated sequel, Finding Dory.
Ryan Heppe, producer of the upcoming Short Circuit remake, has snared the rights to a little-known Marvel comics property Crash Ryan. Heppe will join forces with writer David Cowper to develop a script, although as yet there are no details on whether a financier has stepped forward to usher it onto the big screen.
Sony Pictures TV has cooked up a new take on the supernatural for a new television series based on the unusual friendship between famous magician-illusionist Harry Houdini and prolific author Arthur Conan Doyle. Dubbed Houdini And Doyle, the 10-episode series has been sold to a number of global parties, including Fox (US), ITV (UK) and Shaw Media (Canada). As part of the deal struck with the networks, the show will go straight to series.
Filming on season 2 of True Detective is in full swing right now, with last month delivering us a gallery of snaps taken from the show's Los Angeles locations. Besides those visual updates, one of the series' newest additions, Vince Vaughn, spoke to Playboy recently and emphasized that this sophomore season intends to keep the richly drawn characters and strong material which made the first season a success, but eschew the story and cast. Most of this was already public knowledge, but it was still encouraging to hear Vaughn also make mention of the differences between the seasons.
By switching up its summer release slate 20th Century Fox are now faced with upping its marketing techniques for Poltergeist. Originally positioned for a late July opening, the spooky remake was moved up by two months and is now set to open nationwide at the end of May. That's only eight weeks to build anticipation, muster excitement and to generally make sure there are sufficient bums on seats when the movie opens.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt is currently hard at work on Oliver Stone's Edward Snowden pic, an experience that seems to have left him keen for lighter fare. Per Variety, the actor is now involved in a live-action Fraggle Rock movie for New Regency and The Henson Company. In addition to producing the feature the Don Jon star is also taking the lead role.
