After the lacklustre REC 3: Genesis, the hugely-popular Spanish virus series is returning to the prime component of its success: scares. Forgetting the events of Genesis, the fourth outing - REC 4: Apocalypse - has enlisted director of the first two films, Jaume Balagueró to remind audiences of just what made the first REC so damn frightening. If you don't believe us, take a peek at the new red-band trailer above.
After more than a decade away from directing, Penny Marshall will return to helm sports-themed biopic, Effa. Per Deadline, the movie intends to tell the true story of Effa Manley, the pioneering baseball executive who was the first-ever female inducted into the Baseball Hall Of Fame.
Days later, the aftereffects of the Sony e-mail hacks are still rippling out across the Internet. We've already been clued in to the complex specifics surrounding a potential Marvel-Sony deal, but this latest batch of exchanges hones in on a film that's already in production. The title of next Bond movie - Spectre - was announced last week in a celebratory manner, during which Sony unveiled its official cast and brief synopsis. What we know now thanks to CNN is that a month ago, the fate of certain key elements in the sequel were up in the air.
Released earlier this year, Darren Aronofsky's biblical epic Noah proved divisive amongst critics and audiences, in spite of boasting a solid core of central performances. Nevertheless, his unique brand of filmmaking looks set to explore new terrain for his next couple of projects. Turning his hand to small-screen serials, he's currently attached to direct HBO's adaptation of the Margaret Atwood's MaddAddam trilogy at some unknown point in the future. But first, it's looking as though he'll be heading up a new big screen feature with The Good Nurse.
Paul Feig's take on supernatural comedy franchise, Ghostbusters, doesn't even have a completed script yet, but speculation surrounding who will bag a role is at fever pitch. The reboot is slated to kickstart the series with an entirely new all-female cast and story, leaving the first two instalments as is, and introducing a new generation of moviegoers to the magic of spook huntin'. With no confirmed cast members at this time, it's no surprise that the entire world has thrown in their two cents on which actresses should be strapping on proton packs.
The rags-to-riches biopic has proven to be a crowd-pleasing template for movie gold. Tracing the origins of a noted person of interest as they ascend the ladder of success is a sure-fire way to capitalise on a business's notoriety in the public domain. With The Social Network an example of the darker shades of corporate practice linked to Facebook, and another Steve Jobs biopic en route, the rise of the underdog movie still has a few miles left. Bearing that in mind, the next business earmarked for the big screen treatment is fast food giant, McDonald's, in The Founder.
After last night's scoop surrounding the Sony Hack, news spread that at one point Marvel Studios were in serious talks with Sony bosses to include Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War. While both properties, Spidey and Cap, originate from the pages of Marvel's comics, their big-screen rights are split across two studios. Spider-Man belongs to Sony, and Cap belongs to Marvel. This means sadly, that despite Spider-Man's appearance in the Civil War comic book storyline, legally he cannot appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Earlier this year, it was announced that Bridesmaids helmer Paul Feig and The Heat scribe Katie Dippold would be strapping on their proton packs for the next Ghostbusters movie. Except, the third supernatural comedy based around the nerdy ghost hunters won't be a direct sequel. It will be a complete reboot. This means a fresh slate for the series, with an all-female cast leading the ghostly brand into the modern age. Feig's intentions are to leave the first two '80s flicks well alone, which, has stirred an unfavourable opinion from one franchise veteran, but much excitement from the rest of the planet.
Out of all the movies earmarked for a small-screen spin-off, MTV's Scream series continues to lead the pack in terms of intrigue. Much debate has surrounded the potential exclusion of the franchise's iconic Ghostface mask, which was settled recently when Wes Craven unveiled the updated mask on his Twitter account (which you can see below). However there's now bigger fish to fry as a starlet involved in the show, Disney alum Bella Thorne, has hinted at a far bigger homage set to appear.
After the 2010 time-traveling romp, Hot Tub Time Machine, brought in $64 million worldwide, another stab at a worn-out premise has been marked for revival in the shape of Hot Tub Time Machine 2.
