Storywise, REC 4 will pick up straight after the ending of REC 2. That’s right, back to that dreaded apartment complex chock full of demonic flesh-eaters. Dropping the found footage format of its predecessors, the story will follow long-suffering reporter Angela Vidal (played again by Manuela Velasco) who wakes to find she’s not in quarantine anymore! No, a group of soldiers have come to her aid and scuttled her away aboard an ocean freighter along with the virus.

It looks like familiar terrain, with people exposed to the virus begin trying to kill everyone else. With the claustrophobia turned up a notch thanks to the confined spaces of a sea-faring vessel, will anyone make it to port? Probably not. It looks like things are destined to get even bloodier than before.

REC 4: Apocalypse opens in US theatres on January 2nd, 2015.

“[REC]4 picks up a few hours after the gruesome events of [REC]2, where an elite squad of soldiers has infiltrated an apartment complex teeming with the victims of a demonic possession virus that has transformed them into vicious killers, in an attempt to extract a young reporter, Angela Vidal (Manuela Velasco). Angela wakes up in a high-security quarantine facility located deep in the bowels of a giant ocean freighter. But her ordeal isn’t over, as the terrifying virus has made it on board with her, taking the series to a spectacular and bloody finish on the high seas.”
