Fake it till you make it. It's a tried and true method, and one that Nintendo's Reggie Fils-Aime seems to be enthusiastically embracing lately. As a followup to yesterday's news about both the new 2DS handheld and a price drop for Wii U, Fils-Aime channeled all of his ass-kicking and name-taking abilities into one single word: "Meh."
Remember The Raven - Legacy of a Master Thief? I certainly do - I reviewed its first chapter about a month ago, and though I found it very ambitious and uncommonly likable, it didn't quite do the job for me. It did end strong, though, and I came away feeling optimistic for Chapter 2. Well, point-and-click fans, Chapter 2 is upon us, and its called Ancestry of Lies.
At last week's Gamescom, executive director Alex Corre, of Rayman Legends publisher Ubisoft, showed a surprising amount of positivity for Sony's floundering PlayStation Vita and Nintendo's struggling Wii U. According to Corre, both systems have the potential to succeed, as long as certain events or circumstances come to be.
Short Term 12 will remind you why you like movies. It tells a beautiful story, brings to life vivid and real characters, and will leave you breathless but undoubtedly still smiling. Do yourself a favor and track down a theater that's playing this right away.
Have you heard of Destin Cretton? For those who haven’t, that may not be the case for long - the director has been enjoying some well-deserved spotlight lately for his feature film Short Term 12, even making the cover of the summer issue of The Academy Report. Destin was kind enough to spend some time chatting with us, and our discussion was engaging to say the least. He’s a very humble guy, and his insights on character development, life, and what to do when things don’t go according to plan were all quite fascinating. There’s even a neat little easter egg at the end - I’m just one degree away from knowing him in real life! Not to say that the bewitching communication matrix we like to call the telephone isn’t real life, but you’ll see what I mean.
Oh no he didn't. In a recent post to the PlayStation Blog, Ubisoft Community Developer Nik Schmidt told readers that "we've got you covered" if they weren't able to make it to Gamescom and see the new trailer Ubisoft showed for Watch Dogs. We've got you covered! It's like, one word off from our name. And he didn't even capitalize it. Sheesh.
You know that game Amplitude Studios is working on? Yea - it's called Dungeon of the Endless, right? Wrong! Well, both actually - though that game is coming, Amplitude has revealed it is also working on a fantasy 4X strategy game due out this Spring called Endless Legend. Huh, multitasking indies - I like it.
Wow, you've never heard of AquaPazza? Noob! Nah I kid, I actually thought it was some kind of waterproof pizza until just a few days ago. Turns out AquaPazza is actually an awesome looking 2D fighter developed by Examu, and is supposed to essentially be a dream matchup between characters from various visual novels series. The source material for characters and such is mainly visual novels published by Aquaplus -- who also published this game itself in Japan -- as well as those by Leaf, a subset of Aquaplus that focuses mainly on more adult-oriented content. Sounds like quite the combo.
Though it may not be quite as commercially successful as Mario, personally I can't think of a better value than a console that comes with a pre-packed Zelda title. Whether it's bundled or just available on day one, having Zelda as the first thing you play on your shiny new box is a surefire way to feed the flame of your next-gen console excitement. The Wii U never really had that at launch last year, but that may all be about to change. According to a report from Destructoid, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD may be strapped onto 32GB Wii Us 'round the globe come October.
Not to be outdone by Sony, it seems Microsoft has finally spilled the beans on how exactly indie developers can, and presumably will, go about self-publishing their games on the Xbox One.
