Following on from the success of Star Trek: Picard, another franchise figure now apparently wants to get his own spotlight. George Takei has commented on why a Star Trek spinoff focused on Hikaru Sulu would be a great idea, citing the fan love for the character, as well as previous ideas for original productions. What, then, might a Sulu series look like, if it ever became a reality?
We've already had a lot of responses to The Batman trailer released at the DC FanDome event last weekend. Some fans have already figured out the Riddler's code, with further theories considering whether or not the villain was created by Robert Pattinson's Bruce Wayne. Now, however, an eagle-eyed comic book artist has seemingly identified the origins behind the Riddler's mask in the teaser.
We already have a lot of new content to look forward to in September from the main streaming platforms, and Amazon Prime are no exception. As well as showcasing one of Will Smith's less-successful pictures, Amazon are also putting out some great horror titles as we head into the fall, including classics like Wes Craven's original The Last House on the Left, and several 1960s and 1970s curios from American International Pictures (AIP). What horror films can we expect, then, on Prime next month?
Earlier this year, we learned that 1998's Urban Legend was being set up for a reboot, with Colin Minihan of Grave Encounters in the director's chair. The Screen Gems production is now reportedly close to securing its lead actors, with Collider reporting that Sydney Chandler and Katherine McNamara are in talks to lead the cast of the new, apparently social-media focused version of the '90s hit.
A fresh reboot of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre has been in the works for some time, with Legendary Pictures behind the new take on the Tobe Hooper classic. Up until today, it appeared that the filmmaking talent and vision behind the picture was pretty settled, including directors Ryan and Andy Tohill, and a 60-year-old Leatherface. However, Legendary have now pulled the Tohills from the project, and scrapped what's been shot so far.
It's fair to say that the release of the first trailer for The Batman has the internet excited today, from the reveal of a decidedly emo Bruce Wayne to the foreboding tone of the material. The teaser, which you can catch above, appears to contain several nods to the villains we'll be seeing in Matt Reeves' film, too, including Paul Dano's Riddler. Many people are suggesting, though, that Colin Farrell shows up as Oswald Cobblepot in the footage as well, albeit not quite in the way that we expected.
It's been a typically busy week for Netflix, both in terms of new additions and a selection of surprising movies that have been dominating the streamer's most-watched charts. The service has just added three new titles today as well, namely horror film 1BR, season 4 of Disney's Bunk'd, and the Adrien Brody and Salma Hayek-starring Septembers of Shiraz. So, are any of these worth checking out?
Stories from DC FanDome are now stacking up, including a new trailer for Wonder Woman 1984, teasers for The Flash's seventh season and Zack Snyder's Justice League, and various other looks at the future of different franchises. We've also learnt a lot more about James Gunn's The Suicide Squad, which has dropped a teaser and confirmation of the full cast of villains and anti-heroes set to appear in the 2021 movie. A panel at the virtual event has shown off the members of Task Force X, too, including the first big screen outing for King Shark.
We're already getting some big news from the DC FanDome event today, including the reveal of a new Wonder Woman 1984 trailer, and a look at what promises to be an awesome Gotham Knights game. The latest information to come from the virtual show though is that Robert Pattinson's The Batman is officially taking place on a different Earth than the main DCEU world of Justice League.
