Avicii used his set at Tomorrowland this weekend as a platform to debut new music - that much was to be expected. What we didn't see coming, however, was that he'd gradually begin to adopt tropical house as his style of choice.
Jesus, Don Diablo, walk it back a little bit. We've come to expect the everything-but-the-kitchen-sink style of future/progressive/electro house pioneered by Don Diablo, but there's still such a thing as being too eclectic. The Dutch DJ/producer has released "On My Mind" through Spinnin' Records, and, well, it's kinda' got a lot going on.
We're all for artists proving their versatility, and Matisse & Sadko's latest track accomplishes exactly that. The Russian duo have had a massive couple of months with two Martin Garrix collaborations propelling them into the mainstream orbit, and they appear eager to capitalize on that momentum by following up with the debut of an unexpected original.
Few EDM artists have made the kind of career moves that Martin Garrix has in 2015. Between epoch-making collaborations and a redefinition of his own style as a DJ/producer, the young dutchman has proved himself more than the one-hit wonder who brought us "Animals" in 2013 - and the global industry appears to have taken notice, as he just announced that he will headline Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) in the fall.
Shirts & Skins are back with another sexy, funky groove. You might remember when the project between DJ/producers Pierce Fulton and Ansolo came on the scene with their "sexy house" track "Genius of Time," but the duo have proven themselves not to be one-trick ponies with their latest and greatest.
To be honest, I didn't expect to find myself writing that I actually enjoyed a lot of NERVO's debut album, Collateral, but the fact of the matter is that I did. Don't get me wrong - there was a fair amount of EDM-pop kitsch to sift through in order to unearth some of the treasures planted by the Australian-born singer/songwriter sisters, but when those creative risks arose they made the effort a rewarding endeavor.
It's not common for an artist's PR team to make it a point to tell their fan base the exact gig where they're planning to debut a collaboration, but then again, this is no common collaboration. The worlds of two monumental artists - Armin Van Buuren and Jean-Michel Jarre - have collided to yield this track, and they've made it clear that they don't want any of their fans to miss it.
We couldn't forget Major Lazer and DJ Snake's monumental collaboration with singer MØ even if we wanted to - which, to be fair, we do. "Lean On" became such a ubiquitous theme of the 2015 festival season that it's been stuck in our heads literally the entire five months it's been out, so we're pretty happy to learn that Major Lazer has teamed up with MØ once more on something that's completely different.
We've heard our fair share of puzzling remixes, but this one takes the cake. Dutch house mainstay R3hab has tried his hand at remixing Axwell /\ Ingrosso's "Sun Is Shining," I can't help but assert that this one was a little thrown together.
No other music festival brand has embarked on a global conquest as far reaching as that of Ultra Music Festival, and boasting events in South Africa, Brazil, Croatia and Japan, it doesn't look like it'll stop anytime soon. The company announced earlier in the year that their newest addition would take the form of Ultra Singapore, and now they've revealed a phase one lineup as well.
