Count The Chemical Brothers as the most recent of dance music's elder statesmen to make a celebrated comeback amid the movement's newfound glory, because the first few tracks they've allowed to trickle out from their upcoming album have been massive. The duo became avant-garde staples of the late '90s big beat era, and despite their extended absence they're proven ready and willing to put out relevant new music.
We knew Flux Pavilion was planning on changing some things up for his upcoming album, but really? Riff Raff? "Who Wants To Rock" is Flux Pavilion's first release since announcing Tesla, his long-awaited debut album - and yeah, it "doesn't strictly sound like [we] would expect," but it's just a weird statement to make. A UK dubstep mainstay featuring a bizarre, American gimmick rapper on a track seems like some sort of sacrilege. We're all for crossovers, but only when they work.
Pierce Fulton and Ansolo have each made names for themselves independently of one another, but their new project, Shirts & Skins, promises to turn out some quality tracks. While each of them tend more towards the trance and progressive house genres for their other releases, they set out to make "sexy house" under the new moniker - and "Genius of Time" is exactly that.
Trance fans now have even more of a reason to feel uplifted than the invigorating music that makes up the soundtracks to their lives, as flyers for Dreamstate, an all-trance festival put on by Insomniac Events and Motive Events, could be found all over the streets of Los Angeles this past weekend. The only information available on the flyer was the dates of November 27th-28th, the general region of Southern California and the hashtags "#Dreamstate" and "#TranceFamily."
It has been reported that an attendee of industry-leading EDM massive Electric Daisy Carnival died around 4:00 AM after being taken to a nearby hospital on day two of the festival. The identity of the young man as well as his cause of death will not be disclosed to the public until his family has been notified.
In a move that surprised absolutely nobody, Justin Bieber gave a surprise performance at Drai's Beach Club in Las Vegas to parade his EDM crossover track around. The pop singer collaborated with the duo Jack Ü - consisting of EDM icons Skrillex and Diplo - on "Where Are Ü Now" back in March, and the three of them will likely milk the song's crossover value much further yet before the end of the summer.
EDM has seen its fair share of film and television crossovers over the past few years, but this one is a strange fit indeed. UK trance outfit Above & Beyond brought Breaking Bad's Bryan Cranston onstage during their set at EDC Las Vegas for a special version of their "push the button" ritual, which evoked some macabre elements of the program that clashed somewhat with the group's otherwise uplifting stage show.
It's easy to bash on a pop superstar like Taylor Swift for complaining about the amount of money she's getting, but considering how she went about doing so - and what happened as a result - we've got to applaud her for her efforts. The 25-year-old icon recently posted an open letter to her Tumblr which explained her decision to pull her new album, 1989, from the service, and it appears to have served its purpose.
Over the past month, Disclosure have certainly been drumming up some buzz. The Surrey, England duo recently followed up a couple of new tracks with the official date announcement and album art of their sophomore effort - and now fans have even more reason for excitement regarding what they've got in the works.
For a while we started thinking we were going a little too hard on Kaskade, but it looks like we weren't the only ones who felt the way we did. You might remember when we railed on his Skylar Grey remix, or when we encouraged him to play it safe by sticking to deadmau5 collaborations - but it looks as though his fan base never shared our sentiments as much as when we condemned his remix of Jack Ü and Justin Bieber's "Where Are Ü Now," because the progressive house superstar had to take to Facebook to defend it.
