Straight from the Tokyo Game Show come two new promotional trailers for upcoming Final Fantasy games, namely Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster.
We've been lucky enough to get some quality old-school 2D platformers in the past couple of years. From the New Super Mario Bros. titles to Donkey Kong Country Returns and most recently Rayman Legends, a genre that was for a time considered antiquated after the gaming industry made the jump to 3D has showed off that there is still plenty of life in it.
It's almost time for English-speaking fans of Capcom's popular Ace Attorney handheld series to start yelling, "OBJECTION!" again, as the publisher has given a concrete release date for Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Dual Destinies, the fifth main entry in the franchise exclusively for the 3DS. Confirmed earlier this year to be receiving a digital-only release on the 3DS eShop in North America and Europe, Dual Destinies now has a specific release date for wannabe lawyers to get excited about - October 24.
Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, the third entry in Square Enix's JRPG sub-series, will feature a bevy of familiar faces besides the titular heroine. Players can expect to run into such characters as Caius, Snow, and Noel in Lightning's latest adventure, and the publisher has released a new set of promotional screenshots showcasing some of them in action, along with various looks at the game's environments.
Shantae: Half-Genie Hero, the recently revealed sidescrolling action game from developer WayForward, was recently announced via a Kickstarter campaign last week. The game was confirmed for just about every current and upcoming home console, including the Wii U, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and the PC, via Steam. Believe it or not, the roster of systems the company is planning to port the game to has grown even bigger, as a recent update on the game's Kickstarter page has announced plans to bring the game to both the PS Vita and the recently announced PS Vita TV.
Fans of last year's quirky mobile rhythm game, Theatrhythm Final Fantasy, now have another musically-oriented title based on the iconic Square Enix RPG series to look forward to. The publisher recently announced that Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call, a direct follow-up to the original, is currently in development, and scheduled for a Japanese launch on the 3DS next spring.
Fans of the Kingdom Hearts franchise now have a good excuse to replay through some of the first titles in the series, as Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX, a remastered compilation exclusive to the PlayStation 3, hits North American stores today. The collection includes the original PlayStation 2 Kingdom Hearts game that kicked off the series, along with Re: Chain of Memories, which was itself a PlayStation 2 remake of a Game Boy Advance title that bridged the gap between the first two numbered entries. Also included is a collection of cutscenes from the DS title Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days. All three titles come with high-definition makeovers and PS3 trophies.
Just Dance 2014, the upcoming entry in Ubisoft's popular dance party series, is set to release on every modern (and upcoming) home console under the sun in the coming weeks. As is tradition with any music-based title, the publisher has slowly been dropping info on which songs players can expect to groove to.
