Last year, Guardians of the Galaxy far exceeded expectations at the worldwide box office, and while Ant-Man hasn't hit numbers quite so high, it has so far earned a respectable $409 million. Could the final Phase 2 Marvel movie end up reaching $500 million? It's certainly looking possible, as Ant-Man has kicked off its run in China with $0.71 million during midnight screenings.
Back in 2013, Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters (which starred Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton) was something of an unexpected hit, despite failing to impress critics. Despite the fact that the $50 million movie made only $55 million domestically, it racking up an additional $170 million overseas meant that Paramount has been slowly eyeing a sequel ever since.
Season two of The Flash has gotten off to a great start, and while the series has done an excellent job of bringing us up to speed with where the main characters are, much of the focus has been on introducing new heroes and villains, like Jay Garrick and Zoom. However, next week's instalment of the hit show will bring back fan-favourite villain Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller).
The CW has today released the first official batch of images from next week's episode of Arrow. Titled "Restoration", the main focus of this instalment is going to be Lauren Lance returning to Nanda Parbat with her sister's remains to ask the new Ra's al Ghul (John Barrowman's Malcolm Merlyn) to bring The Canary back from the dead.
It's been rumoured for a while now, but Legendary and Warner Bros. have finally made it official; 2020 will see the release of Godzilla vs. Kong! There's still no explanation as to how the very differently sized beasts are going to duke it out, but it sounds like we're definitely going to be getting a shared monster universe which these two icons will be calling home among a number of others.
With the focus now on superpowers, season three of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has gotten off to a much stronger start than those which preceded it. The Secret Warriors may still be in their infancy, but the team is so far coming together nicely, and Skye has really come into her own as a character following her evolution into Daisy Johnson/Quake.
Last night's episode of The Flash may have been one of the best instalments of the hit CW superhero drama to date. With some light finally shed on Zoom's motivations, the downright awesome debuts of Jay Garrick and Patty Spivot, and a last minute reveal sure to leave viewers counting down the seconds until the next episode, it definitely made up for some of the season two premiere's pitfalls.
In recent months, the allegiances of characters in Star Wars: The Force Awakens has started to become clearer thanks to the new details and images which have been sporadically released. Star Wars: Episode VIII, on the other hand, is a very long way away, so it could be as much as a year before we find out whose side any of the new casting additions will be on.
A few years ago, Guillermo Del Toro came very close to directing The Hobbit. Scheduling issues put an end to that however, and the biggest movie he's directed to date is Pacific Rim, a big budget blockbuster which didn't make a huge dent at the box office (hence why the chances of a sequel are currently looking slim after coming close to happening).
