In 2017, Zack Snyder will make the dreams of comic book fans everywhere come true when he finally brings the Justice League to the big screen. Mad Max: Fury Road director George Miller came close with a fully CGI movie a number of years ago, but this version is going to be all live-action and could give The Avengers a run for its money if handled well.
Fresh off the news that Inhumans is apparently still happening, it sounds like Fast & Furious star Vin Diesel is already setting his sights on another Marvel character. The actor campaigned his way into Guardians of the Galaxy to land the role of Groot, but as that's just a voice part (in which he's essentially unrecognisable), there's really nothing to say he couldn't play someone else.
Despite the fact that the trailer for X-Men: Apocalypse leaked following this year's San Diego Comic-Con, 20th Century Fox has yet to release an official look at the movie (despite rumours that the first preview would be attached to The Martian). Now, based on recent comments from director Bryan Singer, it appears like we'll have even longer to wait than expected!
When Marvel first announced that they'd be bringing Matt Murdock to the small screen instead of rebooting him in feature film form, many fans were concerned. But then Daredevil premiered on Netflix and took everyone by surprise, delivering one hell of a television show and introducing us to a gritty, dark take on the iconic character.
Yesterday, it was reported that Marvel Studios may have scrapped their Inhumans movie due to a conflict between the film and TV divisions stemming from Kevin Feige and Marvel CEO Ike Perlmutter's recent split. That came after Feige decided that he would rather report directly to Disney instead of the frugal Perlmutter, and as hard as the report about Inhumans was to believe, it did make at least some sense.
There have been rumours for a while now that Boba Fett is among the characters eyed to get a Star Wars spinoff movie at some point in the next few years, with most believing that the one Josh Trank was going to direct would have starred the iconic bounty hunter. However, following the troubled production of Fantastic Four, Lucasfilm dropped Trank and pushed that release back in preference of Phil Lord and Chris Miller's Han Solo spinoff.
Following her appearance in Captain America: The First Avenger, Hayley Atwell's Agent Carter became a fan-favourite character who would go on to star in her own One-Shot and make appearances in Ant-Man and Captain America: The Winter Soldier. She's also taken the lead in her own TV series, and after a well-received first season, it will return early next year.
Not content with dominating the live-action realm with their movies and TV shows, Marvel is also making an impact with animated shows revolving around characters like The Avengers, Hulk, and Spider-Man. One of the latest additions to that roster are the Guardians of the Galaxy, a natural choice given the success of James Gunn's movie last year.
After the divisive Prometheus and the poorly received The Counsellor and Exodus: Gods and Kings, Sir Ridley Scott has found himself back on top with The Martian. The movie has so far received widespread critical acclaim and exceeded expectations with over $120 million at the worldwide box office to date.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. premiered to huge ratings back in 2013, but those soon began to plummet when it became apparent that the series wasn't what fans of The Avengers had been hoping for. That aside though and the first half of season one was very hit and miss, and it wasn't until the show tied into the events of Captain America: The Winter Soldier and introduced Hydra that it really became must-watch TV.
