Well, it was just a matter of time before this happened, right? Given how successful John Wick: Chapter 2 is proving to be, both with critics and at the box office, everyone wants to get in on the fun and Deadline is now reporting that Amblin Partners has won an auction for Ruthless, John Swetnam's spec script that's said to be a female-led vehicle in the vein of Lionsgate's newest action franchise.
It's been a while since we've seen anything from Cary Fukunaga. After delivering an explosive first season of HBO's True Detective back in 2014, he then gave us the equally impressive Beasts of No Nation the year after. Since then, however, the filmmaker has been lying low, so it seems, while attempting to find his next project. He was attached to direct Stephen King adaptation It at one point but that ultimately fell through and now, Deadline reports that he'll tackle Shockwave for Universal.
In issues #21 and #22 of Batman and The Flash, "The Button" crossover will shed some light on how Watchmen fits into the DC Rebirth Universe. What that will entail remains to be seen, but we do know that the bizarre appearance of The Comedian's bloody button in the Batcave will be the focal point. Now, the lenticular cover for Batman #22 has been revealed and it raises even more questions about what's to come here.
We've already seen one batch of official images from the next episode of The Flash, but The CW has now released six additional photos focusing on Gorilla Grodd and Solovar. The former has made several appearances in the series to date, but this looks set to be his most significant appearance yet, hence why the network is pulling out all the stops to promote it.
The CW has released the first official images from next week's episode of Arrow, and in them, we get to see Dinah Drake finally suit up. Well, sort of. Though she's yet to take over the Black Canary mantle, the latest addition to Team Arrow takes one step closer to making that a reality here as she dons a domino mask (which definitely suits her).
Last month, Marvel announced that Peter Parker's clone will take centre stage in Ben Reilly: The Scarlet Spider, a new ongoing series from Peter David and Mark Bagley. As excited as many fans were to learn that the beloved character would be getting his own title, the response to the redesigned costume can't have been the one the publisher hoped for. Overall, people weren't too pleased, and the bizarre slit in the mask where his mouth is was widely ridiculed, so much so that a later variant cover seemingly removed it.
Marvel's comic book sales have been plummeting for a while now, and the blame can probably be pinned on two things. Endless new #1 issues are part of the problem, and so too is the decision to replace classic characters with new versions. For example, Amadeus Cho is currently The Hulk, while Jane Foster is Thor and X-23 is Wolverine.
Yesterday, we learned that writer Chip Zdarsky will pen a new Spider-Man series titled Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man which kicks off this June after a special Free Comic Book Day issue. Promising to take the wall-crawler back to basics, it's going to revolve around some more grounded adventures for the iconic superhero.
Hugh Jackman has said on multiple occasions that Logan will mark his final appearance as Wolverine, but what about Patrick Stewart's Professor X? The signs do seem to be pointing to the character's story coming to an end here, but what does that mean for his future in the X-Men franchise?
This week, we finally got a first look at Thor: Ragnarok thanks to behind the scenes photos and concept art, but there's still an awful lot we don't know about the movie. The basic premise of a de-powered God of Thunder being sent by Hela to a gladiatorial arena to take on The Hulk is already out there, but what else director Taika Waititi will be bringing to the table is unclear.
