Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice faced the wrath of critics for being too bleak and nowhere near "fun" enough, while Suicide Squad's attempt to rectify that led to the movie being a chaotic mess which somehow fared even worse when it came to its Rotten Tomatoes score.
Warner Bros.' DC Extended Universe hasn't gotten off to the best start. With the particularly rough Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and the so-so Suicide Squad, things aren't looking too good for the studio right now. Thankfully, they've got two chances to turn things around this year what with both Wonder Woman and Justice League arriving. While the former film is certainly important, it's more Zack Snyder's upcoming effort that everything hinges on.
One of the biggest shocks in The Clone Conspiracy came when we learned that a resurrected Gwen Stacy had been working with the Jackal (secretly Ben Reilly) the whole time as he enacts a scheme to bring back Peter Parker's greatest enemies and loved ones from the grave. Now, those two finally come face to face in next week's issue #23 of The Amazing Spider-Man.
The second trailer for Logan was classified late last month, but there's still no sign of it. However, it is expected to be released online in the next week or so, and to promote it, Fox recently launched a creative marketing campaign. Called "1974 Frames of Logan," fans were able to sign up to a viral site earlier this month, with the first 1,974 of them set to receive a postcard featuring a frame from the preview.
Deadpool massively exceeded expectations when it was released last year, becoming the highest-grossing R-rated film ever. With the flick proving to be a worthy take on the Merc with a Mouth, anticipation for the sequel is, understandably, very high.
Ever since the tragic death of Carrie Fisher last month, fans have been left wondering how Disney and Lucasfilm will proceed with the Star Wars franchise. We know that the actress had finished shooting all of her scenes for Star Wars: Episode VIII, but given that she was set to have a pretty large role in Colin Trevorrow's Star Wars: Episode IX, the studios now have to go back to the drawing board and re-configure the story a bit - or at least, we imagine that's what they're doing.
Image Comics has revealed today that next month's The Walking Dead #163 has received pre-orders from Diamond Comic Distributors' partner comic book stores in excess of 730,000. Excluding Loot Crate style subscription box services, the publisher boasts that this marks "the Direct Market's highest ordered comic in nearly 20 years."
Over the years, Wilson Fisk has established himself as one of the Marvel Universe's most diabolical villains. After first appearing in the pages of The Amazing Spider-Man, the Kingpin of Crime went on to spend years terrorizing Daredevil and their battles would ultimately become the stuff of legend.
The X-Men franchise is in trouble. Actually, let me rephrase that. The main series is in trouble. The franchise itself is doing just fine, in fact. Deadpool is laughing all the way to the bank, and perhaps even the Academy Awards stage, and Josh Boone's New Mutants is shaping up quite nicely. Then there's also that proposed television show that has people excited. But what about the next film starring the core cast of characters? Well, right now we really don't know what's going on there.
While we may have been treated to a spectacular first trailer at the end of 2016, there's still an awful lot we don't know about Spider-Man: Homecoming. The Vulture may be the reboot's big bad, but what he has in store for the wall-crawler isn't clear, and new comments from Michael Keaton have left us even more intrigued (confused?).
