Shinji Mikami of Resident Evil fame has finally announced the first title to be released by his new development studio, Tango Gameworks, after being acquired by ZeniMax Media.
The upcoming Vanillaware title Dragon's Crown, previously rumored to be cancelled, is back on track to release day with the backing and development support of Atlus. With the rumors of the game's demise running rampant around the internet after a lack of progress updates from both Vanilla Ware and Ignition Entertainment, it's refreshing to see a bit of good news. Atlus previously worked with the team to localize their two PlayStation 2 era titles, Grim Grimoire and Odin Sphere, so it's good to see the project backed by familiar faces.
Arkane Studios' newest stealth-action titled Dishonored receives a new debut trailer today, courtesy of Bethesda Softworks. Dishonored's setting is set in a 17th century whaling town by the name of Dunwall. With much of the town relying upon advanced technology and machines that couldn't possibly have existed in their time, the game gives off a sort of steampunk vibe. With the dystopian setting and technology, Dishonored as a whole gives off a feeling wholly reminiscent of BioShock's Rapture City; perhaps in part due to Arkane Studios' work as design assistance for BioShock 2.
Konami's stealthily slipped some new screenshots for the upcoming PlayStation Vita Metal Gear Solid HD Collection into our inventory. So far the HD Collection is shaping up to be a great portable transition onto the Vita. While I'm silently lamenting the loss over not including Peace Walker HD in the collection, both of the games look to be turning out nicely. Some of the character models look incredibly crisp and easy on the eyes, especially with Mr. Naked Snake himself in Snake Eater.
BioWare just announced Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut, a free DLC that will expand on the events at the end of the game and providing a bit more closure. Fans have been universally panning the ending to Mass Effect 3, begging BioWare to make changes to what they felt wasn't the right way to end the series. What seemed like a bold move on BioWare's part instead was interpreted by fans to disenfranchise them from the hours they sunk into developing Commander Shepherd to their own specifications.
Sony's social networking-slash-dungeon crawler, Warrior's Lair, might have been rumored to be cancelled, but the source of the rumor says otherwise. The cross-platform PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita role-playing game caught my fancy when it was revealed at last year's E3. With the lack of updates from either the publisher or developer, I was starting to get a little curious, especially after the rumors surrounding Dragon's Crown.
Earlier this week, I received a sudden message from Amazon.com apologizing for the inconvenience and that my preorder for Dragon's Crown was going to be cancelled. That news, coupled with the rumors that Dragon's Crown might have indeed been scrapped, had me worried that the latest Vanillaware title would have yet to see the light of day.
Warriors Orochi 3 revitalizes the hack and slash genre with the largest roster to date, new online customization, and more than enough fan service and depth to keep it all interesting.
