Madonna's directorial efforts have not been blessed thus far. The two films to her credit - Filth & Wisdom and W.E. - have not been box offices successes. They haven't been successes, period. But she'll keep trying, no matter what, and we've got to respect that. We've heard that Madonna recently picked up the rights to The Impossible Lives of Greta Wells, which is a good bet for her next film.
It's been a bang-up year for horror films. Evil Dead, The Conjuring, Mama ... like them or loathe them, they've managed to get audiences into the seats for some scary thrills. Coming up this October, just in time for Halloween, is Vincenzo Natali's Haunter, starring Abigail Breslin. The trailer for the film just hit today and honestly, it doesn't look half bad.

The past few years have been a time for rising comediennes: Melissa McCarthy, Maya Rudolph, Sandra Bullock's return to comedic excellence, and, of course, Kristen Wiig. Really ever since Bridesmaids, we've heard about Wiig starring in one film or another. She had a prime part in Despicable Me 2, will show up in Anchorman: The Legend Continues, and hits TIFF with Hateship Loveship. Her next film will be Welcome To Me, and she's got one hell of a cast joining her.
With all the talk of actors retiring right now, it's nice to be reassured that some of our favorites will not be going anywhere. Nicolas Cage is not only not going anywhere, but he's going to appear in everything he can get his hands on. There's now word that Cage has signed on to appear in Paul Schrader's next film The Dying Of The Light.
We were all very distressed when the BBC series Sherlock came to a conclusion last season with the death of our favorite detective. By 'we', I of course mean Martin Freeman's John Watson, because all the rest of us knew that old Sherlock was not quite as dead as he would have us believe. With season 3 of Sherlock geared to hit in America early in 2014, with a UK premiere sometime the end of this year, it's no surprise that little bits of casting and plot news have begun filtering out. In this case: there's a new villain in town.
Eddie Murphy needs some work, and maybe he's finally going to get it. There is news today that Paramount is properly working on Beverly Hills Cop 4. It will be the next film in the franchise that Eddie Murphy made so popular back in the 80s and follows the announcement that the Beverly Hills Cop TV pilot was not picked up.
