Though Chris Claremont's The Dark Phoenix Saga remains one of the most beloved X-Men storylines of all-time, we still haven't really seen a proper adaptation of it. Sure, Brett Ratner tried his best to throw elements from it into The Last Stand, but that movie was an absolute disaster and is best not remembered. However, with 20th Century Fox now looking to reboot their mutant franchise, the comic book arc might be getting another chance to shine on the big screen.
Ask, and you shall receive. That seems to be the motto underpinning the marketing campaign for Disney's Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. After getting a brand new international trailer yesterday, complete with an epic new shot of Darth Vader, we now have two more promos to feast our eyes on. Both are of the international nature once again, and they arrive in the form of a TV spot and yet another trailer.
Sony's Resident Evil franchise is coming to a close with the arrival of Resident Evil: The Final Chapter. Arriving in January along with Capcom's much anticipated video game, Resident Evil 7, the film will bring the story of Alice to a close and looks set to do so in an electrifying fashion.
After having made almost 80 films, one of the all-time greats, Robert Redford, has announced that he'll be retiring from acting. His career is almost unparalleled in Hollywood, having delivered timeless classics like The Sting, All The President's Men, and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, among countless others. Even in his later years he was still doing excellent work in movies such as All is Lost and even Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
Given the ratings juggernaut that it is, AMC clearly has no interest in ending The Walking Dead. We already know that we'll be getting an eighth season and with Robert Kirkman still writing the comic book that it's based on, we can assume it will continue on longer after that as well. In fact, showrunner Scott Gimple recently revealed that not only is there no ending in sight, but they don't even have a planned ending yet.
On this past Sunday's episode of The Walking Dead we reconnected with Daryl, and discovered the horrendous treatment he was receiving while being held captive at Negan's compound - but during this weekend's extra-long installment, the smiling psychopath makes the trip to Alexandria for another face-to-face with the man he succeeded in breaking towards the end of the season 7 premiere.
When Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them opens later this month, it'll kick off a five film series for Warner Bros. That's a lot of magic to look forward to, and while the verdict is still out on if the Harry Potter spinoff can match the success of the original franchise, early buzz seems to be pretty positive.
Jessica Chastain is one of the most in-demand actress working today, and has a slew of dramatic parts (including next year's Woman Walks Ahead) in the works, but now we're hearing that she's also attached to star in and produce a big-screen adaptation of Jimmy Palmiotti and Joe Quesada's comic series, Painkiller Jane. Chastain will play the lead role of Jane Vasko, a tough New York beat cop who develops incredible healing abilities.
Coming out of the Toronto International Film Festival, one of the hottest flicks was no doubt Ben Wheatley's Free Fire, a wild shoot 'em up that stars Brie Larson, Cillian Murphy, Jack Reynor, Armie Hammer and Sharlto Copley. Our very own Matt Donato had nothing but praise for it in his review, calling it a "relentless genre assault of bullets, laughs and personality, like a pseudo action movie that cranks intensity to 11 and rips off the knob."
