Halloween 35th Anniversary Special Edition Blu-Ray Review
Re-watching Halloween for the 35th Anniversary release was a strange experience for me, because I'd only seen it for the first time a few years ago, before my whole horror obsession really began. There I was, just a little cinematic newbie, watching one of the most iconic classic horror movies of all time, and not really caring in the least. On my first go around, before developing a true appreciation for the genre, the movie seemed rather cheap, dull, and a tad bit silly. Calm your tempers, just hear me out before you crucify me, because as I said, those thoughts came from a time where horror was very new to me.

Among Friends Review
Danielle Harris is hands down my favorite new-age Scream Queen, which I've written about over and over again, so you can bet I've been hotly anticipating her directorial debut Among Friends. Stepping away from the spotlight and going behind the camera, Harris puts to action a script by star Alyssa Lobit focusing on the dirty little secrets we hide from those we love. Sure, it's not a new idea by any means, but I so hoped astute genre knowledge from Harris could create some killer friendship horror. Unfortunately, Lobit's screenplay is more concerned about purporting bitchy stereotypes of shitty people, as the horror and gore gets lost amidst a film that wants to be entirely more fun than it permits. Being transported back to the 80s for a murder mystery party may sound like a totally rad experience, but without substance and atmospheric tension, our faux-party is nothing but a silly charade.

I Spit On Your Grave 2 Review
The original I Spit On Your Grave (1978) can be described in a multitude of words, and while acknowledging the absolute abhorrent treatment of a female character coupled with her equally graphic revenge, Meir Zarchi's relentless film became a cult classic because it empowered women in a way not even horror survival girls had before. It's easy to comprehend the shock-value appeal, and that's exactly what Steven R. Monroe tried to hit on with 2010's remake, and in my opinion, struggled to do. It was no longer fresh, the shock was lost, and it felt a little more sadistic. I Spit On Your Grave 2, Monroe's controversial sequel to his equally controversial remake, unfortunately feels like beating a dead corpse, um, I mean horse, as creating a franchise that brutalizes women and forces us to watch just doesn't really get me all that excited. Hooray, more rape, dehumanization, sexual abuse, and degradation! Ugh, there's horror, and then there's sick exploitation.

Nato And Remy’s Last Stand: We Pitch Horror Video Games We’d Love To Play!
Remy and I are ungrateful - we know this. There are plenty of killer horror video games out there, yet we're always thinking about what we don't have. What can be done better? What's missing? What sucks? Complain, complain, complain, right? Can't we just appreciate titles like Left 4 Dead and Dead Island for what they are, play them gleefully, and move on? Either that, or put our money where our mouths are and create a game that encompasses what we're missing.

For years festival fans were wondering when Mandy Lane's face would show up in theaters worldwide.

10 Killer Reasons Why Being A Horror Fan Is Awesome
Any good horror fan doesn't need me to tell them why being a horror fan is so damn awesome, but I feel like I need to write this article more for the outsiders. It's no doubt that horror fans get the worst reputation out of any genre fans, because we love movies themed around death, scares, monsters, ghosts, gore, and everything else you wouldn't want your mother watching. We're sick and twisted individuals, right? Wrong. Completely wrong. If you think horror fans are just a bunch of Satan worshiping nutjobs, then you have no idea why being one of us is so awesome.

The Colony Review
OK, was I the only one who couldn't stop thinking about 30 Days Of Night while watching The Colony? I know one is about vampires and the other is about cannibals, but everything about The Colony's cannibal creatures reminded me of the vampires Josh Hartnett squares off against. Their jerky, feral motions, jacket-wearing leader, screeching communication - even their teeth were pointy and jagged like the Alaskan vampires. Oh, yeah, if you're thinking that my fixation on an old movie while watching a new one is a bad omen, you're spot on. There I was, ready for what could have been a unique take on the apocalypse/survival thriller, but instead I got a film as vanilla as the whitest blanket of snow.

An addiction is a serious subject no matter how you look at it, be it drugs, alcohol, sex - you name it. Addictions are diseases that consume people's lives and turn them into something they may not even want to be, as psychological impulses cloud their decision making process as if the devil on their shoulder was the only person guiding them. Sexual addiction comes with an added stigma though, as some people think it's just a convenient excuse for sleazeballs to seem more respectable (the whole Tiger Woods scenario), which creates tricky lands to traverse as a film topic. Make it too funny, and you're treating sexual addiction as the myth some people believe it to be.

When it comes to exploring the space-time continuum, I'm admittedly a bit of a novice, but the thought of alternate realities and other versions of ourselves existing is always an intriguing concept. Bring it up around any philosophers, and you could spark a debate that lasts hours on end, but thankfully Dennis Iliadis' film Plus One is a much simpler beast. Part party-hearty, rambunctious teen comedy, part doppelgänger sci-fi mystery, Iliadis creates a tense and hectic scenario by avoiding too many explanations, benefiting from simplicity instead of handcuffing himself with brainless stupidity. It's a quick, easily watchable thriller that makes you accept what's happening, and one that won't challenge minds in a way that some heavy-handed genre releases dump mountains of information on viewers. All you have to do is strap in and go along for Iliadis' ride.
