There've been rumblings that've gathered strength over the past few months of a fresh attempt by DC Comics to drastically change things up in their present timeline, this time by introducing young successors to the mantle of already established DC heroes like Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman. The initiative has been named 5G by those who've been following the news of the upcoming event and it promises to turn the DC Comics universe upside down.
Joker might've left critics divided and society watchdogs concerned about the impact of the movie's message on impressionable minds, but the film is an unquestionable hit with audiences. After making a killing at the box office and beating out Marvel's own villain-turned antihero Venom to become the October release champ, fans have granted Joker another distinction by rating the pic among the ten best movies on IMDb.
Back before promotion for Todd Phillips' Joker movie became mired in one unpleasant controversy after another, the biggest question on everyone's mind regarding the film was whether or not leading man Joaquin Phoenix would be able to live up to the legacy of Heath Ledger's iconic performance as the Clown Prince of Crime. As it turns out, Joker itself is conscious of carrying forward Ledger's work, which is why it contains references to his incarnation of the villain as well as a direct nod to the actor himself.
Writer Chris Claremont was recently at New York Comic Con on the Marvel Comics panel for the announcement of a new X-Men title under Claremont whose name is yet to be announced. During a discussion about Stan Lee's legacy, and MCU films adapted from his storylines that have enjoyed such tremendous success at the box-office, Claremont was all praises for the MCU. But he had this stinging criticism to offer on Fox's X-Men series that have been releasing since the early 2000s:
Avengers: Endgame might be out of theaters, but fans are far from done picking apart the movie on Blu-ray to extract every ounce of meaning from the film, from the tangible to the imagined. A plethora of fan theories have emerged on social media to explain different parts of the movie. Recently, a fan put forward a theory connecting Tony Stark being able to wield the Infinity Gauntlet in Avengers: Endgame to a scene from the original Iron Man:
The promotion for the upcoming movie Free Guy has begun, with the film's stars, which include Ryan Reynolds and Taika Waititi along with Jodie Comer and Joe Keery recently filming a Meet the Cast video for YouTube. Both Reynolds and Waititi are known for their sense of humor and fans are naturally excited to see the two sharing the same screen. We get a taste of their chemistry in this little promo clip, too, as things start off ordinarily before taking a hilarious turn when Reynolds and Waititi's last film together, Green Lantern, gets mentioned.
The new Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) trailer has finally dropped and it promises to put Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn front and center in an all-female lineup of heroes and villains from DC Comics, including Huntress, Renee Montoya and Black Canary. One character missing from the preview though, despite being mentioned more than once, is Harley's boyfriend the Joker, played by Jared Leto and arguably the most famous supervillain in all of comics. But there might be a good reason for his absence.
The upcoming MCU film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is being looked forward to by fans for a number of reasons. For one, it'll give us the pairing of Scarlet Witch AKA Wanda Maximoff and Doctor Stephen Strange. This bit of news caught many by surprise when it was first announced, but a Reddit user has now noticed that director Scott Derrickson, who also headed the original Doctor Strange movie, had been hinting at the team-up two years ago during a Reddit AMA for the first film.
Thanos was the big bad of the MCU up until Avengers: Endgame, where he was finally defeated by the heroes, both his present self by Thor and his past self by Tony Stark. In any other context, such a decisive demise would mean the end of the Mad Titan in upcoming movies. But this is the MCU, which has made a party trick out of another fan-favorite villain (Loki) coming back from the dead repeatedly, and as fans on Reddit pointed out, Thanos' present-day ship still exists in the main timeline as a reminder of the big bad.
It seems all is well in the family again. The first family of movie drag racing and ludicrous stunts from the Fast and Furious franchise had famously suffered a split when its two biggest stars, Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson had openly started feuding. This resulted in Johnson leaving the series for his own spin-off Hobbs and Shaw. But the two heavyweights have finally seemed to decide to bury the hatchet, rekindling hopes in fans of Hobb's return to the franchise that birthed the character.
