‘I’ve been carrying that pain in silence’: Bebe Rexha reveals a painful loss to silence Azealia Banks ‘deep rooted’ toxicity

Bebe's advice? Azealia Banks should consider therapy.

Azealia Banks is one of the most articulate people on X, but time and time again, she uses her mastery of words to tear people down. This time, the target of her “jokes” — if you want to call them that — was Bebe Rexha, whose body irks Banks so much that she felt the need to make public, disparaging comments about it on the only platform that actively encourages that sort of thing: Elon Musk’s X.

Banks is an odd figure in pop culture. She is talented and at times even insightful, that’s for sure. She probably thinks she’s more talented than she actually is, but the talent is there. Unlike her fellow rabble-rouser Kanye West, though, Banks isn’t exactly prolific with her music. There’s an entire generation that just knows her as the mean lady on X. And on a night when Met Gala looks are being judged, that is — as you can imagine — where Banks would shine.

It was a slow night for Banks, unusually so. She took shots at Cardi B and all the other celebrities who actually got invited. To be fair, she did have some compliments for looks like Nicki Minaj’s, but she knows, and we know, that positivity doesn’t travel well on X. So, as she tends to do, she decided to completely cross the line with Bebe Rexha’s look on the red carpet. Azealia wrote: “It’s giving implanon/nuvaring she needs removed or depo shot that needs to stop happening (I’m not even tryna play her).”

That statement ended up being more triggering to the always bold Bebe than Banks probably expected. Bebe took the moment to share how tired she is of people commenting on her weight in lieu of Bank’s deep rooted toxic insult. She revealed she’s had infertility issues and has been on various medications — which she suggested Banks also look into, along with a dash of therapy. Page Six reports Bebe wrote, “I got pregnant, and it didn’t work out and I’ve been carrying that pain in silence. I never owed anyone the truth, but maybe now you’ll think twice before commenting on anyone’s body.”

Happy to get a response — from someone important — Banks started dishing out medical advice. She told Bebe that Lexapro is the reason she’s gaining weight and that she, Azealia, doesn’t need therapy because she’s living her best life in Sweden… where, of course, depression doesn’t exist.

Nothing about Azealia Banks’ behavior is surprising. She has been a vile and mean person for the longest time, and she thrives on bullying people. But the thing about cyberbullying is that it’s not exactly the same in practice as schoolyard bullying. The effect might be the same, but the approach is different. And consequently, the kind of reply it demands is different too.

Schoolyard bullying requires you to stand up to your bully and look them in the eyes — because what they want is to make you seem weak so they can feel strong. But with online bullying, the goal is a little different. The goal is to show the world that you’re the main character — that you can pull focus from anyone, at any time. That’s why Kanye West is always name-dropping, posting screenshots, and insulting Jay Z and Beyoncé’s kids.

The simple solution with such people? Ignore them. Hopefully, Bebe Rexha will have a peaceful recovery after what’s clearly been a difficult time with her health.
