James Cameron’s scathing assessment of the Titan submersible tragedy is as honest as it is brutal

He knows exactly what he's talking about, too.

Celebrities commenting on real-world events can often be a double-edged sword, but saying that there are stark differences to be found in the comments made by Nicki Minaj and James Cameron when discussing the Titan submersible would be underselling it drastically.

As well as being the director of Titanic, Cameron is also one of the foremost experts on both the ship and underwater exploration, having made upwards of 30 descents to the titular vessel during his decades spent piloting crafts of his own that he’s helped to design and manufacture. With that in mind, hearing his take on the tragedy is definitely worth listening to and taking on board.

The multi-time Academy Award-winner is also known for his frankness and brutal honesty, so it wasn’t much of a surprise to hear him take a fairly scathing tone when he spoke on the subject. It might sound harsh given that the scenario is so fresh in everybody’s minds, but Cameron breaking it down to a “skill issue” is unfortunately entirely accurate based on everything we know so far.

Needless to say, there’s been plenty of debate over the internet’s decision to turn the Titan into a source of mirth, but Cameron’s no-holds-barred sentiment is difficult to argue with.

It’s borderline self-aggrandizement in a sense when he’s basically saying “that would have never happened if I was in charge,” but that’s also technically 100 percent accurate based entirely on the sheer number of times Cameron has visited the deepest parts of the ocean and emerged completely unscathed.
