Jonathan Majors’ Marvel future once again clouds over as assault trial gets delayed

The 33-year-old actor will now appear in court this fall.

Jonathan Majors was due to stand trial for domestic violence this August 3, however the case has now been delayed. The Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Creed III star made his second appearance in court this Thursday, expecting to begin official proceedings, but the trial was ultimately held up due to the prosecution revealing they are not ready to progress at this time. The trial is now scheduled for this September 6.

As per Variety, Majors appeared in Manhattan court dressed in a grey suit, holding hands with girlfriend and fellow actor Meghan Good as he entered carrying a Bible and a notebook as he approached the bench. Majors’ defense attorney Priya Chaudhry successfully proposed that the prosecution wasn’t “timely” enough in turning over evidence, which led to the four-week delay.

Majors first appeared in court on June 20, when this August 3 date was initially set. His trial follows on from his arrest on March 25 this year under charges of strangulation, harassment, and assault concerning an alleged physical altercation with Majors’ then-partner, Grace Jabbari. If found guilty, Majors — who started out 2023 as one of Hollywood’s biggest new breakout performers, following roles in two major blockbuster movies — faces up to a year in jail.

During the ongoing legal problems the actor is facing, Marvel has maintained radio silence on Majors’ future as Kang the Conqueror, the central villain of the MCU’s evolving Multiverse Saga. He is due to return in this October’s Disney Plus series Loki season 2, which was filmed prior to the arrest. As things stand, Majors is due to reprise his role in both 2026’s Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and 2027’s Secret Wars.
