Mark Hamill joins Stephen King in mourning for cinema’s ‘vital’ part as it gets wrecked by Warner Bros.

What would America's dads do without TCM?

If anyone has ever walked into the living room as a child and seen an old movie that dad was watching on the television, those are mainstays for TCM, with stars like John Wayne and Marlon Brando. As Warner Bros. makes a move to slash the network’s budget, some celebrities are speaking out against it and the latest includes Mark Hamill.

Turner Classic Movies has been a staple in the movie industry since 1994, offering movies and television series that take viewers back to a classic period in cinematic history. Why would Warner Bros. want to scale back such a wonderful channel that offers so many enthusiasts a place to go to watch the old stuff?

Stephen King was recently one of the outspoken celebrities who are calling out Warner Bros. for the cuts they’ve made. Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, and Paul Thomas Anderson wrote a letter to the company, and Ryan Reynolds was quick to join in to ask for clarity on what the cuts mean for the channel. Obviously, it’s their older movies that stand to get cut and Mark Hamill has now chimed in as well, making that a force to be reckoned with.

It’s just like a museum that needs to be maintained — think of it as the Smithsonian.

Catering to young viewers has its merits, but there will be a day when they get older and want to reach back in time to the movies and other programs that they enjoyed growing up.

To backup Mark Hamill, a nice shot from his latest comedy/adventure The Machine will work just fine.

Sometimes, the simplest statement that gets straight to the point is the strongest.

After mowing the lawn and drinking a cold beer, what will fathers have left if they don’t have TCM? Jokes aside, TCM must be protected because entertainment is such a huge part of everyone’s lives, and its history, like rare fossils or priceless artifacts, needs to be preserved.
