Samuel L. Jackson forced to defend Brie Larson from ‘incel dudes who hate strong women’

The MCU's Nick Fury won't stand for slander against his on and offscreen cohort.

Having pretty much seen and done it all throughout a legendary career, you wouldn’t have thought there’s much that would faze Samuel L. Jackson these days, and yet he still can’t wrap his head around the ongoing backlash pointed in the direction of his Marvel Cinematic Universe co-star Brie Larson.

Having shot Kong: Skull Island and Captain Marvel together in quick succession a couple of years back, the dynamic duo have become firm friends in the years since, something that’s even been reflected in the onscreen dynamic between Nick Fury and Carol Danvers, which is finally set to be picked up again when The Marvels comes to theaters later this year.

As you’ll no doubt be aware, the Academy Award-winning actress is one of the top targets for the unsavory side of the MCU fandom, and in an interview with Rolling Stone, Jackson didn’t hold back when sharing his thoughts on the matter.

“Brie’s a stronger person than people give her credit for. She’s not going to let any of that stuff destroy her. These incel dudes who hate strong women, or the fact that she’s a feminist who has an opinion and expressed it? Everybody wants people to be who they want them to be. She is who she is, and she’s genuinely that.”

Does anybody really want to risk the wrath of the Avengers overseer himself? Probably not, but is that going to stop the trolls from rising up once more as we get closer to the release of The Marvels, which already has the most-disliked trailer in Marvel Studios history? Again, probably not, but the easiest way for it to overcome the hate is with critical acclaim and box office success.
