We’re living for Halle Bailey’s mermaid fashion at ‘The Little Mermaid’ premieres

Halle Bailey has nailed her 'The Little Mermaid' premiere looks, proving that she truly is an underwater princess.

We love a good red carpet moment, especially when an actor stays on theme, and Halle Bailey one hundred percent understood the assignment for all of the premiers for The Little Mermaid. The star of Disney’s most recent live-action has taken to each premier like a fish out of water, in the best sense possible.

Bailey has strutted her stuff at the Los Angeles, London, and Sydney premieres for her upcoming film, and all three looks have been sublime. The actress has looked ethereal and elegant at each event, sporting dresses that transformed her into a goddess of the sea. Hey, if you are going to play a mermaid who lives “under the sea” you may as well get on board with the theme.

The actress first made waves (pun intended) at the L.A. premiere in this stunning iridescent Valdrin Sahiti gown. The sculptural piece hugged the actress’s figure, with the bottom flaring out a little, trumpet style, almost creating the image of fins. The bust gave off the impression of shells, or even coral, another nod to the character who (in the animation) sports a shell bra. The whole look was stunning with the fabric creating the illusion of the surface of water when the sun shines on it just right.

Her London look emulated the white sea foam that breaks onto the shore, in a custom silk gown by London-based designer Miss Sohee. Styled by Nicole Goodman, the actress paired the plunging neckline dress with a  Swarovski-crystal-encrusted headpiece that complemented the shell-like embellishment on the dress. The look was finished off with some pearl earrings, well it doesn’t get more oceanic than that!

Most recently the actress attended the Australian premiere held at the State Theatre. Her gown was also another custom piece from Miss Sohee (according to this tweet). The dress was a soft silvery blue number, again with a structural element around the bust, much like her Sahiti gown, and covered in crystals that accentuated her waistline. The dress was another fitting number, but with a tulle overskirt which added a flowing element.

Bailey is not the only actress in recent years to have matched their dresses to the films they are in. Zendaya is also a good example of a star dressing to match, with her styling complimenting each film she is in, such as her futuristic outfits worn for the Dune premieres, or her wonderful webbed dress worn for the Spider-Man: No Way Home premiere.

You can catch Bailey in the much-anticipated Disney live-action, The Little Mermaid, coming to theatres on May 26.
