Will Smith making his video game debut in the midst of a career downturn hints opportunities are hard to come by

Are these the only offers coming his way?

He might be an Academy Award-winning actor and one of the biggest, most popular, and bankable movie stars of the modern age, but the damage done to Will Smith‘s career and reputation by the slap heard around the world could end up taking a long time to undo.

While he’s put on a brave face, apologized to Chris Rock, and set about trying to get his career back on track, it’s notable that the only upcoming credit he has on the docket is in Bad Boys 4. That’s admittedly a smart and safe option to return to a proven money-spinning franchise, although a move back to Netflix in Fast and Loose hints his big screen prospects are looking thin.

Taking that notion a step further, it’s been revealed the former Fresh Prince will be making his video game debut in Level Infinite and Lightspeed Studios’ open-world survival RPG Undawn, where he’s lent his likeness to the character of in-game survivor Trey Jones, and you can check out the promotional trailer below.

Of course, the I Am Legend parallels are there for all to see – which is coincidental considering the apocalyptic epic also has a sequel in the works – with the press release touting that Smith’s Jones will “act as a guide to help other survivors navigate the world four years after a global disaster.”

We’re not saying he’s slumming it, because plenty of high-profile talents have lent their names, voices, and faces to a slew of console titles in the past, but it can’t be ignored that one of the biggest of them all has waited until their career is in the midst of a downturn the likes of which it’s never experienced before to take the plunge for the very first time.
