President Trump just debuted a new version of his iconic look, sporting a darker, almost brunette hair color upon arriving in New Jersey. The president, widely recognized for his signature golden-blond locks, debuted this noticeably different style after Air Force One landed at Morristown Municipal Airport on Friday, September 4. This sudden transition has caught plenty of people off guard, fueling a massive wave of speculation across the internet.
According to the New York Post, the president’s darker mane marks one of the few times that he has messed with his trademark hairstyle. The change in appearance was immediate and, for many observers, quite jarring. The outlet noted that the president’s well-known aesthetic has remained largely consistent throughout his time in office. So, it is no surprise that everyone from journalists to celebrities and regular netizens had a lot to say and even more jokes.
Per the outlet, journalist Yashar Ali posted, “The hair????” while Jeopardy champ Hemant Mehta quipped, “If everyone keeps mocking this, there will be hell toupée.” One user mused that “Summer’s almost over,” and so it is “a natural time to switch from bottle blonde to brunette.” Author Annie Lamott remarked, “I love it. So youthful. Very Pierce Brosnan.” Some, like journalist Aaron Rupar, were direct with their curiosity, writing, “what is the world is going on with Trump’s hair?”
Farewell Goldilocks
Fox News was also very curious about the change, noting that the president was on a trip to his Bedminster golf club prompted a flood of reactions across social media. The report pointed to the enthusiastic commentary on X, where one user wrote, “Trump becoming a brunette was definitely not on my 2026 bingo card.” Another user added, “Seems brown is the new blonde …”
According to the outlet, the mystery surrounding the change only deepened the next day. That was when the president was seen golfing on Saturday with Fox News anchor Bret Baier and others while wearing a red “Trump was right about everything” hat that kept his hair mostly hidden.
Fox noted that this isn’t the first time the president’s hair has become a point of public fascination. Back in 2019, he sparked a similar conversation after appearing with what looked like a slicked-back hairstyle during a surprise visit to a Virginia church. That particular look was short-lived, as the president was spotted later that same day back to his familiar style.
According to The Independent, the president’s hairstyle was a topic of conversation in August as well. During a speech at the Red Rock Casino Resort and Spa in Las Vegas, the president sported a seemingly brighter and fuller head of hair. This appearance prompted various reactions, with Rupar asking, “Is Trump rocking a wig, or what the hell is going on here?” while noting that his hair had “a lot more volume than normal.”
Even the Democrats’ official account on X reportedly weighed in, posting an image of the president with a slicked-back look and stating, “This was Trump’s hair less than 3 months ago.” Former GOP Representative Adam Kinzinger also commented, claiming, “Trump has a weave!!”
The president has frequently addressed the rumors surrounding his hair throughout his career, per The Independent. During his 2016 campaign, Trump tried to prove his hair was his own while on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.
When Fallon asked if he could touch his hair, Trump joked, “The answer is yes,” adding, “but the people in New Hampshire where I’m about to be an hour from now – I hope they’re going to understand. During a 2018 CPAC conference in Maryland, he reportedly admitted, “I try like hell to hide the bald spot, folks. I work at it.”
More recently, he pushed back on allegations that he wears a wig, pointing to a windy 2024 campaign rally in Ohio. “I don’t wear a wig. But that night, they found out I did not wear a wig because if you did, it was not going to be on your head very long,” he said.
Despite the intense scrutiny, the outlet reported that the president’s supporters have consistently rallied to his defense. One supporter wrote on X, “This is proof that President Trump is aging in reverse. His hair looks absolutely amazing today,” while another added, “Trump’s voluminous hair is triggering them.”
As for the latest brunette shift, it remains to be seen if this is a permanent change or merely a temporary experiment. The White House has yet to provide a comment. For now, as one user wrote about Trump, “Sometimes it’s brown, sometimes it’s white, sometimes it’s blonde. He’s a man of mystery.”
