Online modes in sports franchises are obviously one of the core pillars to what makes or breaks a game. Server stability is of course a huge factor, but one thing that’s often overlooked is the amount of accessibility options provided to players.
What NHL 18 excels at is allowing groups of people to play their game online, however they choose. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been together with friends (both in person and online) playing a game like FIFA, and it refuses to let us all group up together and play however we so choose.
NHL 18’s online play eliminates this problem. The game seamlessly allows both local and online friends to pair up or play against each other, in whatever configuration they can think up. While it might seem like a small touch, it’s something that alleviates an inconvenience that has plagued online titles for years now.
