5 Ways Rocksteady Can Continue The Batman: Arkham Franchise

With the trilogy ending Batman: Arkham Knight released in June of last year, Rocksteady Studio's six year relationship with DC Comics' pinnacle vigilante has come to a seemingly definitive close.

1) Open World Online Multiplayer

Possibly the biggest side experiment in the entire series, Arkham: Origins‘ multiplayer mode was widely met with ambivalence and cynicism, with many opining that all it amounted to was an attempt to slap the Batsymbol onto a Call Of Duty ripoff.

This was understandable considering the emphasis on loadouts, Penguin supplied care packages and limited map sizes. However, anyone who has ever read a comic or seen a film featuring The Dark Knight knows the state of chaos and insanity that Gotham city usually finds itself in.

There is no way to show off this massive scale of lunacy better than a city-wide run and gun pitting the forces of law and order against Gotham’s dozens of gangs. Will it challenge the established shooter franchises that have dominated the market for near a decade? Obviously not, but it may just provide an alternative to the po-faced macho centric antics that they supply.

Accompanied by a simple story showing your customized characters rise to power in his or her respective faction, the selling point to curious gamers almost writes itself. Informed by nearly eight decades of comics history, it could be touted as Rocksteady’s version of the open world crime epic, a radical (but not entirely drastic) change in direction.

The opportunity to send your inner street thug to the heights of supervillain-y itself would be nigh on irresistible to gamers raised on GTA and Saints Row, don’t you think?
