Alongside the game’s Switch release, Boyfriend Dungeon has also been released on PC and Xbox.

Boyfriend Dungeon combines ARPG gameplay with a dating sim presence, where players can date their weapons and grow closer to them.

While development has been open and transparent, the game’s launch today came as a surprise. Boyfriend Dungeon began as a Kickstarter project in 2018, with its projected release window delayed numerous times. Most recently, the game was delayed in 2020 out of an abundance of caution for developers’ mental health during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We know it can be disappointing, but this is the best way forward for us and the game. We’ve learned from our mistake of trying to ship a game on time when it’s not ready,” developer Kitfox Games wrote at the time. “We want you to be able to play Boyfriend Dungeon ASAP, but we also want to make sure the game is enjoyable and the best it can be. And not burn out in the process, which would certainly make the quality suffer.”

Boyfriend Dungeon is available on the Nintendo eShop for $19.99. The game is also discounted on Steam for $17.99, and can be downloaded through the Xbox Game Pass.
