NIS America has released a rather large batch of new screenshots for Cave Story 3D. The images, added below for your perusal, show the original 2D sprite version of the main character inside of 3D environments.

NIS America has released a rather large batch of new screenshots for Cave Story 3D. The images, added below for your perusal, show the original 2D sprite version of the main character inside of 3D environments.

The aforementioned 2D mode can be picked from the in-game options menu, allowing for a throwback to simpler and classic times. Back when the original Cave Story was released, that is.

Take a look below. Be prepared to be impressed. The two-dimensional sprite work looks great when it meshes with full, three-dimensional environments.
