Matthew Mercer is taking on yet another iconic franchise as the iconic villain in 'The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.'

Matthew Mercer was proud to announce that he will be taking on voicing the character of Ganondorf in the upcoming The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom game for Nintendo. Mercer has been working as a VO actor for some time now across video games, animated shows, and dubbed Japanese anime as well. You may recognize him as the English voice of Levi Ackerman in Attack on Titan or Jotara Kujo in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure. He has cultivated quite the “nerd” group as he puts it, others that are enthused by gaming and RPG games which resulted in the creation of the web series Critical Role which sees other VO actors come together to play Dungeons and Dragons with Mercer acting and Dungeon master.

The actor now gets to add another illustrious game franchise to his list, The Legend of Zelda. He announced his participation in the project on Twitter earlier today sharing a picture of his character, Ganondorf. Fans had already speculated about his involvement after hearing a familiar voice in the latest trailer, and they have now been proven right.

This is a big deal for Mercer who has grown up not only loving the franchsie but also this particular character as he shared pictures of times he has dressed up as said character in the past. He also shared an adorable photo of himself as a child dressed as the protagonist Link.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is an upcoming game by Nintendo to serve as a sequel to Breath of the Wild released in 2017. After originally being set for a 2022 release it is currently scheduled to be released on May 12 this year.
