The series icon and classic JRPG protagonist will unsheathe his sword in an HD character model akin to his E3 2015 appearance. Cloud will be jumping around in his Sunday best to boot and donning his snazzy trench coat from Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. We have yet to hear though if the character will be getting his own amiibo figurine in the fashion that each of his peers have received thus far.

We do know, however, that Cloud’s arrival in the beloved fighting series will see the debut of a stage set to the backdrop of Final Fantasy VII‘s foul-aired industrial center of Midgar. Given his unprecedented level of promotion on a Nintendo system, the character’s debut in a Super Smash Bros. game begs the question of whether or not developer Square Enix’s recently announced remake of Final Fantasy VII is a telltale sign that could be pending for Nintendo’s upcoming NX game platform.

Regardless, Cloud will now join the game’s growing stable of swordsmen as one of its most realistically rendered members yet, and we can’t wait to see how he plays.
