Gears Of War 4 Is The Cover Star Of April’s Game Informer, Voice Cast Revealed

Game Informer has blown the lid off The Coalition’s sci-fi sequel Gears of War 4, not only offering up a general overview of the shooter, but also the core characters that will be picking up the torch from Marcus Fenix and Co..

Catapulting the franchise 25 years into the future, Gears of War 4 is the first installment to be helmed by The Coalition, after taking point when Microsoft acquired the IP from Epic Games back in 2014. Citing the original Gears as its chief inspiration, the studio outlines some of the ways in which the 2016 sequel stays true to the spirit of the franchise, before introducing the new protagonists.

As the son of legendary war hero Marcus Fenix, JD Fenix is at the heart of Gear of War 4, and will be voiced by Liam McIntyre ( Spartacus, The Flash).

Here’s what the actor had to share at this early stage:

“It’s kind of terrifying, because I get to be the lead in a new era of Gears, which is unbelievable, amazing, and exciting. I’m the legacy, because my dad is Marcus Fenix. JD’s a soldier and a bit of a freedom fighter, and in his heart he’s a bit of a renegade. He’s different from Marcus, but he’s still that heroic archetype.”

Completing the battle-ready crew of marines are Kait Diaz and Delmont “Del” Walker, who will be portrayed by industry veteran Laura Bailey and Eugene Byrd, respectively. Bailey, fresh off her stint in Naughty Dog’s Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End revealed that Kait is a character who “grew up as an outsider.” Delmont, meanwhile, is a fellow ex-COG soldier much like JD.

Gears of War 4 is currently slated to arrive on Xbox One later in 2016.
