Following a series of teases and potential leaks all week long, Sony has finally confirmed the existence of God of War: Ascension, a new God of War title on the PS3 that certainly looks like it’s going to be a prequel.

The previously rumored God of War IV has seen leaks and rumors from the likes of motion capture artists and music composers alike, and perhaps the biggest leak in general when the trailer below hit the ‘net late last night.

The trailer itself shows a stylized Kratos being bound by the trademark chains, but this time they’re made of blood. The familiar Gaia is narrating the trailer, and speaks of times before Kratos was “bound by blood” or when he was known as the Ghost of Sparta. We don’t have a lot of details to go off of other than speculation, and that’s always fun!

Take a look at the trailer, then join me after the break for my interpretation of it.

If you notice, you’ll see that Kratos looks like he’s wearing armor at the beginning of the trailer. He also is sporting his trademark tattoo, but missing his white skin, showing that this game takes place even before Kratos was ordered to kill his wife and daughter at the hands of Ares. The armor could also mean we’ll look into Kratos’ time when he was a Spartan general.

Keep in mind, this is all just educated guessing at this point, but the evidence is hard to ignore.

Sony has already updated the official PlayStation Facebook page to confirm the title, and the game is currently already listed on Amazon right now.

Keep it posted here, as we’ll be sure to be updating you with details as we find out more. But from where I’m standing, it looks like Sony is going to have a VERY good E3 already.
