It looks likely we’ll be returning to the fantasy realm of Midgard sooner than you might expect. That’s right, a new God Of War sequel may already be secretly in development at Sony Santa Monica.

We know this thanks to a recent tweet from the developer’s narrative animator, Kim Newman, who’s recently been snapped wearing a full motion-capture suit. As you can see below, it’s pretty clear what she’s teasing in the pic:

God of War

Sure, I know the majority of all you PlayStation faithful out there are already expecting a sequel – I mean, God Of War was a huge blockbuster hit for the US-based studio and Sony, after all – but it’s still great to hear something a bit more concrete confirming its existence nonetheless.

Released back in 2018 following a challenging five-year development cycle, the God Of War reboot is undoubtedly one of PS4’s most impressive exclusives. It’s interesting to note, then, that only six months before launch, the president of Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Worldwide Studios, Shuhei Yoshida, was “horrified” by what he had played of the game.

However, according to God Of War‘s creative director, Cory Barlog, this harsh feedback ultimately helped galvanize the whole development team. Long story short: Sony Santa Monica ended up creating one of the finest action-adventure titles of this generation, and the final six months were critical to help elevate it from “ok” to “masterpiece.” Amazing, right?

Of course, whether this new God Of War follow-up will focus on the Nordic gods like its predecessor, or whether it will center on a new set of mythology entirely (Egypt, perhaps?) is still very much up in the air. But tell us, are you ready to grab your axe and endlessly shout “boy”once again? Let us know in the usual place down below.
