The Witcher is treated like the red headed step child of the RPG world, even though it is really the Tesla. It is such a well crafted series yet so few people have played it. Hopefully the third outing will change that.
I cannot help but be swept up in the excitement about The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. First of all, of all the next-gen games coming down the pipeline soon, The Witcher 3 is definitely one of the most visually stunning. It seems to be the first time time that we can really tell that this is next-gen gaming. Just the textures alone are enough to make Pixar animators drool.
On top of just the aesthetics, the gameplay is bound to be amazing, because in this series, it always has been. It’s not the button mashing you get in most adventure RPGs. No, this is fairly layered combat, and you need to learn the ebb and flow of offence and defence if you want to survive in this world. It may not be Dark Souls levels of sadism and difficulty, but it also isn’t a game that you can just wander through.
Lastly, think about just how great the story will be. The Witcher is one of those games that places decisions into your hands. You can pretty much screw people over and seduce the shit out of them. As trite as those features may sound now because so many games have them, I am curious to see just how robust these moments and crucial decisions will be.
Oh, and next-gen sex scenes. Those ought to be interesting, right?
