This is how you do it, kids. Tecmo Koei has announced that for the release of Ninja Gaiden 3 next week, they’ll be releasing some free (yes, FREE!) DLC to support your brand new, shiny, bloody game when you pick it up next week.

The DLC comes in two kinds. The first is weapons. Players will be able to hack through enemies using the Eclipse Scythe and the Moukinshou, which are simply a giant scythe and a set of claws that will make even Wolverine blush, respectively. Both weapons were fan favorites in Ninja Gaiden 2.

The second bit of DLC comes in the way of multiplayer maps. Although it doesn’t make much sense, the free maps will allow 4-on-4 battles in a desert setting or a submarine. I’m not sure if you’ve ever been on a submarine before, but it’s really freakin’ cramped. I have no idea how ninjas can be…well…stealthy. Oh well. That’s not my profession.

I certainly hope this becomes a trend with the game. It’d be a lot nicer to have the word “free” and “DLC” in the same sentence without a negative spin on it.

What say you, gamers? What weapon are you looking forward to most? I’m hoping the Vigoorian Flail makes a return.
