The remake of Resident Evil 2 may have been released nearly two months ago, but we’re already losing count of how many mods are out there. Though some have made the game all the more terrifying and challenging (ten Mr. X Tyrants, anyone?), others can make you laugh your ass off (“Beachboy” Mr. X is a fine example of just that).
What we’re here to discuss today is yet another situation when somebody swaps out a familiar Resident Evil character with another who’s completely unrelated to the franchise. Previously, we’d seen one mod that featured none other than Thomas the Tank Engine standing in for Mr. X (oh yeah, it exists), with another putting Captain Marvel in place of Claire Redfield.
This time, however, it’s Leon Kennedy sitting it out because Solid Snake of Metal Gear fame has assumed his role in the Raccoon City tragedy. If you don’t believe us, then watch the video embedded below which features the stealth operative extraordinaire in a variety of horrific situations.
Interestingly enough, the skin used for him was actually the one known to those familiar with the Playstation classic, Metal Gear Solid. Of course, a Solid Snake from any one of the sequels could’ve also been utilized, but this’ll trigger feelings of nostalgia in a very special way. After all, both Resident Evil 2 and Metal Gear Solid debuted on Sony’s console in 1998. It was a great year for gaming, to say the least.
Both those titles mentioned have been remade in the time since, too – only one arrived much sooner than the other. Back in 2004, Konami released Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes for GameCube, which allowed you to relive the Shadow Moses experience with better graphics and gameplay more akin to Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. It’s highly recommended that you check it out if you haven’t done so already.
