New Star Wars Game Announced For Nintendo Switch

No, your eyes don't deceive you - a brand new Star Wars title has just been announced for Nintendo Switch. Is it a bombastic multiplayer experience in the same vein as Star Wars Battlefront II or an entirely single-player focused affair, you ask? Technically speaking, it's both, though you won't be wielding Lightsabers in this adventure, but rather, flippers. That's right, Star Wars Pinball is the new adventure set in a Galaxy Far, Far Away headed to Switch in the near future.

As confirmed via the official announcement, Star Wars Pinball will be available both digitally on the Nintendo eShop and at physical retail as a standalone title. Those wishing to pursue the former route will find it as an add-on for Pinball FX3 but otherwise, both versions are identical. Included are 19 lovingly-crafted digital pinball tables, all based on various eras of the franchise’s universe. All three trilogies, as well as Rogue One, Solo and the animated Clone Wars and Rebels series, will be represented in-game.

As for Switch-exclusive content, Galactic Struggle will ask players to join either the Jedi or Sith in a new Career mode and add to a global points tally for their chosen faction. What bearing the points system will have on gameplay remains to be seen, though more details are bound to emerge in due time. As far as hardware goes, Star Wars Pinball will take full advantage of the Switch’s in-built rumble and screen orientation features. The latter, in particular, is a neat touch and allows players to stand the Switch on its side for a more authentic pinball experience.

It might not be to everyone’s tastes, but Star Wars Pinball is truly shaping up to be a solid Switch debut for the franchise and besides, there’s plenty more to come. Tomorrow marks the worldwide reveal of Respawn Entertainment’s Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order, and it promises to be an event you won’t want to miss.
