Kalypso Media has announced today that its up and coming action/adventure title, The First Templar has officially gone gold and received a release date of May 10th for the Xbox 360 and PC. The First Templar follows the exploits of the famed Knights of the Templar as they quest for the Holy Grail. Featuring co-operative combat and puzzle solving in both single and multiplayer modes, First Templar is sure to please fans of the action/adventure genre.

Taking place in a dark and gritty portrayal of the late 13th Century during the crusade, corruption spreads throughout the Church and once noble knights oppress the weak and renounce their oaths. It will be up to the player to help a young French Templar named Celian who teams up with the noble lady and proclaimed heretic Marie to unveil a grand conspiracy within the Order of the Knights Templar.

With enemies like the Holy Inquisition and King Philip of France for the players to face off against, the quest set before the unlikely duo is sure to loaded with action packed excitement. While playing solo, the player can switch freely between the two characters, leaving the control of the second hero to the game’s AI. At any time, a second player may join in and take control of the second hero.

While watching the latest trailer introducing us to Celian and his Assassin’s Creed fighting style, you can’t help but notice the smooth fighting sequences and slow motion effects as he lands the final finishing blow. The First Templar, while based on a real life religious order and set in real locations, will be bringing a sort of mythological air to the game. As seen in the trailer, Celian battles against a giant who looks more like a troll or ogre than just a man of large size.

I loved the Assassin’s Creed games and The First Templar is panning out to be a must have game for any action/adventure fan, but hey, don’t just take my word for it, watch the trailer and decide for yourself if the May 10th purchase is right for you.
