Previously thought to be an Ouya exclusive, Sony has revealed that TowerFall: Ascension is now heading to the PlayStation 4. The multiplayer brawler is currently scheduled to hit in 2014.

For those unfamiliar with what TowerFall: Ascension exactly is, Matt from, uh, Matt Makes Games is here to explain:

“For the uninitiated, TowerFall is a local multiplayer combat game about using archery to destroy your friends. It’s fast-paced, intense, and strategic, with nuanced controls, one-hit kills, and limited ammo. It’s very simple to learn and almost anyone can play, but if you spend more time with it you’ll find many layers of hidden depth waiting to be discovered.”

TowerFall: Ascension will also carry additional content exclusive to the PlayStation 4. This content includes four new archers, 50 new versus levels, six additional power-ups and a brand new quest mode that is playable by up to twelve people.

I’m of the opinion that it is always good to have a party game for your system, and TowerFall is looking like it will be that game for the PlayStation 4. The title boasts a unique design and has a considerable amount of buzz heading into its 2014 release. While I cannot say for sure if that buzz will translate into solid sales, I do hope that a young indie studio like Matt Makes Games can get the spotlight it deserves.

We will continue to have coverage of TowerFall: Ascension leading to its 2014 release. For now though, take a glimpse at the trailer posted below and let us know what you think.
