10 Characters Who Could Die In Avengers: Infinity War

On May 4th, 2018, the MCU will finally reach the moment that every movie to come out of the studio over the past ten years or so has been building up to. In Avengers: Infinity War, the assembled forces of the Marvel universe will rise up against the Mad Titan Thanos in a bid to stop him from wreaking havoc with the all-powerful Infinity Gauntlet. Though the movie's sequel, to be released a year later, isn't being billed as Part II anymore, you can bet that the epic story will be continued in the follow-up film as well.

There’ve been many a rumour surrounding if and when Robert Downey Jr. will vacate the role of Iron Man. While no fan surely wants to see the man who made the MCU possible leave the franchise, Downey is into his fifties now, so his days of playing the superhero must be – sadly – coming to an end soon. What better way to go out then by leading the Avengers to victory over Thanos?

In many ways, it would make sense for Tony to die in Infinity War. Perhaps most importantly, his own story is now basically complete – he got the arc reactor removed from his body back in Iron Man 3 and he found out the truth about his parents’ deaths in Civil War. However, he’s just found himself a new role as Peter Parker’s mentor, which will be further explored in Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Robert Downey Jr. also has the most flexible contract of the MCU cast, so the fact that it was expected to run out of movies after the next two Avengers films tells us nothing – as Marvel previously amended his contract to add him into both Civil War and Homecoming. So, will the Shellhead go to that big scrap heap in the sky in Infinity War, or live to fight another day? Right now, it’s hard to say.
